Auti CPAP machine reviews and use of sedatives

I have been using CPAP therapy using a fixed pressure setting without success.
I am therefore looking at buying a new AUTO CPAP machine. Does anyone have a link to a comparison review of the available AUTO CPAP machines?
I have managed to find a suitable mask (ResMed Aptiva) which is supremely comfortable and leak free when sleeping on my side but am using a ResMed S9 machine with a fixed CPAP only capability.
My sleep studies show that the CPAP therapy at 13cm is effective at preventing 'an unacceptable number of apeas and hypopneas' but I am awakening after 3-4 hours after falling asleep and then doze off for about an hour at a time after that. Total number of awakenings each night averaged between 4 and 5.
2 1/2 years ago I was disgnosed with PLMD, periodc limb movement disorder, and was prescribed Zopiclone sedative.
6 months ago I found that my sleep doctor had prescribed an excessive dosage (10mg instead of 7.5mg) and also had left me on the medication for 2 years. I did some research and found out that the drug manufacturer recommends no more than 3-4 weeks treatment and that it NOT be used for the treatment of sleep apnea. I started a tapering down program and after 6 months am still only down to 3.75mg.
Does anyone know if the use of sedatives with sleep apnea increases the risk of developing central apneas?

if the same pharmacist filled your refills than ask for an explanation, continue tapering off, you need to regain the ability to fall asleep naturally

The current market favorite appears to the the Resmed S9, but Phillips Respironics has an excellent one, and the Intellipap Auto is wonderful for the price.

Any sleep meds can interfere with our sleep in various ways. That's one reason why we shouldn't take any meds that aren't strictly needed; it's always a trade-off in benefits v. other issues. Is there a reason you're concerned about centrals in particular?
