Trial Mask Program - Which mask should I try next?

Post by ChelseaChestnut » Mon Dec 20, 2010 7:12 pm

I recently tried out the Hybrid using the trial mask program from Sleep Nation TV. Here is the link if anyone is interested: http://www.sleepnation.tv/trialprogram.

The Hybrid wasn't for me. I was curious what other mask suggestion everyone has. I have to use a full face mask. I am currently using the Zzzmask right now. The problems I have with it that I would like to solve are leaking around the top of the nose if it sits too high, the headgear occasionally hurts the back of my neck and also needs frequent adjusting and I would like to have headgear that unclips easier.

I am thinking of trying:
Mirage Quattro or the Ultra Mirage (not sure what the difference is between these two, they look very similar on cpap.com)
FlexFit HC 431 or 432 (also look very similar on cpap.com)

I can't really afford to try all of them through this program, so please help me narrow it down. I am also checking with Sleep Nation to see if the new Quattro FX is available to try or maybe get on a wait list to try it when it comes available.
Thanks!

I just noticed that the Ultra Mirage and both the 431 and 432 are not available on the trial program. The Forma by Fisher and Paykel is available. Does anyone have any feeback about this mask?

Surely you jest!! The Quatro FX is not even available on this side of the world. I doubt it will be in a trial program for many months or more. Why don't you call Dane and ask him which mask he recommends. Keep in mind he is not doing this for fun. I am sure he would like for a few people to actually buy a mask.

If the regular Quattro (without the "FX" tacked on the name) is available, that's the one I'd try next....if it were me.

The quattro is a very popular mask because it works very well. The only complaint is the soreness on the bridge of the nose. They do make gel pads that go on the bridge of the nose that solve the nose irritation for most people.

I use the Mirage Quattro and have from the beginning (August this year). It took me several weeks to get the seal correct. I think I didn't really know what unacceptable leaks were. When I got the leaks corrected, breathing got a lot easier as did changing position in bed. When I got the seal to last the night the headgear was probably tighter than I would have liked but I quickly got used to the feel. I also noticed from the very first night that I could clip into it without problem in the dark. The exhaust porting is quiet and the swivel works without squeaks and has a quick release. It is comfortable enough that I often have to check it in the morning to see if it is still on my face. It doesn't happen immediately, but it certainly does into my fifth month. I've got a hard head though and you might need to factor that as well. I can't recommend it for reading unless you hold material at arms length. Actually this is hard for me to take because I like to read in bed, oh well, breathing trumps it. This relative newbie would recommend the mask and headgear.
