Sounds like a weird question but I have seen steady readings of AHI of 2-3 and pressure around 7-8 for several years. No changes in weight, equipment or daily habits but obviously grown older; numbers have changed to an average AHI of 4.2 and pressure of 8.9.....I am not upset with numbers per se but wondered what could be causing the gradual increase.
Just curious...
Does AHI and Pressure Rise with Age?
Re: Does AHI and Pressure Rise with Age?
I'm just over 8 years into cpap therapy and my pressure. I was originally titrated at 10 cm and was at that pressure for about 6 years.
Then I had another sleep study (with machine and mask). That study said that my pressure was 9 cm but it was a terrible night. I had an in home 2 week trial on an auto as well at that time and my 90% pressure was 11cm.
I bought an auto about that time and began experimenting with pressures - got a lot of help form this forum . I settled in at 10.5 cm to 13 cm. I have been at that setting for just over 2 years.
Now my AHI is below 2 almost always and my 90% is 12 cm most of the time - sometimes my 90% is 11 cm. My average pressure is mostly 11.something. I do spend most of the night at 11cm, which suggests that the inhome auto trial is a fairly accurate measure, in my opinion.
My weight has been virtually stable all that time and I am now 71.
I don't know what that says about your question but just tossing it in there!

Re: Does AHI and Pressure Rise with Age?
Everything that happens to us may change our needed pressure, I have gained 50 lb over the time I've been using XPAP, pressure is the same. The main thing is to have the software and use it, keep the leak rate low. (under 40 LPM) or lower, I like 36 LPM Max Then the data is more reliable. Been using XPAP for over 5 years. Jim
Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!
