I cannot install Encore Pro; can you help?

Post by Janilaine » Wed Dec 15, 2010 8:02 am

Hi,

I have a Respironics System One CPAP and been trying to install Encore Pro software on my computer. I've tried to install both the 2.2 and 2.4 versions. I tried on two different computers each with Windows XP. First, I saved the program from the link I was provided (using my computer at work) onto a disk, took the disk home and attempted to install from the disk onto my home computer. When that failed,I tried to install directly from the link onto my work computer.

With each, I run the software and then proceed to install. I've tried several times and each time I get an error message that the install failed.

I am about to order Encore Viewer but would prefer Encore Pro. Can anyone give me suggestions as to what may be wrong and what I can try to correct?

Thanks! Janis

Update: I just ordered Encore Viewer so I don't need to figure out Encore Pro. Thanks for reading! Janis

I'm sure you will like Encore Viewer, it does the same job without the hassles. i got ep 2.4 to run but it's not worth the hassle. jim

Jim,

That was my thinking too. With viewer, I can get some support from Respironics. With Pro, I'd be on my own.

Hopefully it will arrive soon and I can see what is going on night to night.

You think not so much, huh? Just a newbie's wishful thinking!

Still, hopefully Viewer will be easier than Pro. Jais

I was lucky and did not have a problem installing either. Unfortunately, now I have new laptops with Vista and 7, both 64 bit, so I have to continually dig out the old laptop with XP when I want to check my numbers. I wish they would upgrade the software to run on 64 bit Vista and/or 7.

EV does run fine on Win 7 32 bit, maybe they will upgrade it for 64 bit, for the people that (THINK) 64 bit is necessary, which for most users it isn't. Jim

I know it probably isn't necessary for me - by any stretch of the imagination. I did, however, listen to a few of my CG (computer Geek) friends that advised me to install 64 bit..... Nice to know it works fine on 7 32 bit, I can load it onto my netbook and forget the old laptop. Are there any special things you have to do for 7 - like had to be done for Vista?

EV was a simple install on Win 7 32 bit, did have to redo my driver for the Card reader a second time on my laptop. That may have been because I already had Encore Pro 2.4 installed.

64 bit is useful because it can handle larger amounts of memory, 32 bit can only do 3.4 to 3.7 gb of ram. For 64 bit to be better you need more ram (costly) and programs running that need more ram other than Win 7 64 bit, most people don't need this, but it does make more money for hardware and sales, that's what it about. On mine I found it took almost as much time to transfer large files with 8 gb of ram as with 4 gb, they did process a little faster, but the in-out still was close to the same speed, the result little speed increase. Not enough to put up with the programs I need to run that weren't running correctly in 64 bit.

Lots of computer experts out there, a few even know what's up. Jim

I guess the memory is why I was advised to go 64 bit - laptop came with 4 gb of ram. A year later and I am really upset with myself that I didn't just go ahead and spend the money for the macbook that I really wanted. Oh well, live and learn. Now if I can just get the better half to start using the laptop I can justify buying me the mac. lol
