Putting new SD card into SD

Post by js_insf » Wed Dec 15, 2010 7:47 am

There seems to be a problem with the SD card in my ResMed S9. My doctor has had trouble reading the card twice, and had to bring it to a different office to retrieve the data (though I've never had any problem downloading data myself). I downloaded the data myself this morning (I hadn't done so in about two weeks), and it has stopped recording as of November 30.

And now for the last week or so, when I check my usage in the morning, I'm getting numbers like 21 hours, or 0.8 hours, etc. I realize the problem could very well be with the machine, but I have a new SD card and I'm thinking about inserting it.

My question is: Can I mess something up by doing this? Could it change or erase the settings on my machine by putting a new card in? Any other risks?

Thank you for any information.

Here's what I do:

When I go to download my data, I pop in a spare SD card while I download and review my data. Then I pop out the 'spare', and pop in the original again. That way I have a duplicate of the data should my DME (or sleep center) erase it. If that happens, I will just pop in a new SD, and keep the old one, at least for a while. If everything continues on normally, I will 'retire' the original SD card and replace it with a new one before it's full.

I checked this first to be sure it worked. So long as you don't erase the machine data, it should copy to the new card with no problem (just a regular SD card). The machine retains data for a finite period, I think up to one year, but I think that varies. Detailed data may have a shorter storage period, but someone else will likely know that better than I. I just feel better having a hard backup.

Each day, after downloading the info from the ResMed card into ResScan and viewing the info, I close ResScan and copy the contents of the ResMed card into a folder I created on my desktop, overwriting info when prompted so as to insure the latest info is copied. If I ever need a new/backup card, all I should have to do is copy the files from the folder on my desktop onto a new card and I should be good to go. This way, I can retain a complete history of all info from day one.
