Red irruption on nose Quattro

Post by MoonBear » Thu Dec 09, 2010 2:17 am

Hi, I just posted how thrilled I am to have gotten my first nap with cpap. The Quattro has left, after only 1.5 hours, a red mark on the bridge of my nose. After 8 hours, it could become quite sore, 8 suspect.

Any tips to making this not happen? Would a liner hep? ny and all tips gratefully appreciated.

Namaste,
MoonBear

Thry http://www.padacheek.com and look at the nose bridge protector. It has gotten good reviews here. It's washable and will last a long time. Karen is also a forum member(Padacheek) and goes to great lengths to be sure her products work for you.

My nose wouldn't survive my Quattro without a Comfort Care Sleep Pad - now no marks at all!

Until it gets there, lay your quatro on a piece of well washed cotton knit, cut around it, cut a small triangle in the center and try it on. Adjust/trim the cut out triangle until it fits comfortably. At a pinch people also have used panty liners which give a bit more paddling. Mole skin attached sticky side to the mask also works. So does Bounty paper towels.

This is great information. I too am having the same problems huge red welts on my nose. and not just there, but my chin and forehead are stating to have breakouts. I wear a ff mask. The comfort gel pad is not helping much. I have been using cpap therapy for about a month now.

I am wondering -should I call the doc or DME to see abour replacing my quattro to a hybrid mask?

These welts and eruptions are getting infected I think. I have oily skin anyhow, but have not had a blemish on my nose since I was 17.

I am very good about cleaning my mask every day with mild soap and then che citrus wipes to get out any remaining residue, so i know it is not a hygene issue.

Many of us have skin that does not like to be "sealed" by anything. I think it is called "contact dermatitis". The first time I wore my Quatro It was like I had burn marks beside my nose. I used the fabric gasket make from cotton knit(actually cut from an old pair of panties) For many people it creates a better seal too. With my hybrid I use a strip across my upper lip and a triangle on the chin flap.

Thank you blackspinner -
how do you make the gasket? Cotton sounds like that would help better than plastics. I think contact dermatitis is exactly what is happening.

If the soreness is NOT caused by contact dermatitis, if it is caused by the hard plastic parts being pulled too hard on the bridge of your nose, then try adjusting the knob on the forehead rest.

Look at the part that sits on your forehead- if you look at the top of it, you should see some numbers: 3, 6, 9, next to a drawing of steps. If you don't see any numbers, maybe your mask is set at the tightest position right now. Turn the round knob counterclockwise to expose higher numbers. On mine, I have it set to 6. If it was pressing too hard on the bridge of my nose, I would turn the knob maybe 2 clicks CCW, to position 8. (it does not say 8, it is only marked with every 3 number).

Maybe this might help you,

Mike

Thank you all for all this great info. I have ordered some of the Pad-cheek products as well as the cushion from cpap.com. Getting the top straps right and the knob as well as the height that the silicone headrest sits on my forehead a seems to be part of getting this figured out.

I so appreciate the help. Thanks for taking the time to help.

Namaste,
MoonBear
