Men of a Certain Age

Post by PST » Wed Dec 08, 2010 10:53 am

I didn't watch the whole show, but I saw the first 10 or 15 minutes of the season premier of Men of a Certain Age on TNT last night. Life has changed for Andre Braugher's character. We see him in the opening waking up with a Mirage Quattro on his face. Evidently he is no longer fighting his treatment. Then, as the episode unfolds, he looks thinner and better. He's got his diabetes under control. His marriage is happier (and friskier). He's in charge at the car dealership and appears to finally be earning his father's respect. It's all coming together for him with CPAP in the picture.

Looking better? Getting respect?

Maybe I should think about becoming an actor.

Nah, obviously all you need is a Mirage Quattro.

Mirage ... The mask of the stars. Now I will be on the edge of my seat waiting to see what kind of machine Braugher's character has. I'm betting on an S9. ResMed ought to be able to afford some product placement these days.

Yeah, I know, nasal pillows are for sissies, and real men wear full-face. But the Quattro smears my face cream and doesn't match my Gilligan's Island pajamas.

But to be really "hip" along with the stars, we should probably start looking for a hybrid xPAP machine.......

Doggone it! For some two years now I have REALLY wanted to watch that show. I just never remember to turn it on. I don't watch much TV other than maybe the news and Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune since that is roughly our dinner time. I saw commercials for it and thought it looked like it would be a fun show to watch. *sigh* Now here they are starting their second season (I think) and I even marked the calendar - and forgot about it and didn't watch last night. *sigh*

Better that life gets in the way of TV than TV getting in the way of life, though, right?

I wish I could have watched that. I am happy to hear cpap is getting positive air time on the tube. Maybe it will help more people be aware that OSA exist and can be treated. I never knew anything about OSA until I was told I had it.

I saw the premiere of the show last year. It was a Series 8. Bad continuity in those shots too. One shot didn't have the hose hooked up to the machine and no Humidifier, and I think another shot showed it with the humidifier. I'll have to see if it's still on my Tivo and check it out.

Maybe they need an expert on CPAP on set like when they use firearms?
always a hosehead, almost a hoser.

Slinky,

Just 3 letters...DVR. You don't have to remember when it is on, it is there waiting for you whenever you are ready, and no more commercials.

Heck, if you can lose the face cream and change to Spider Man PJ's, that full-face mask will definitely give you a real man look.

For me, very much a man's man, thrice weekly spa facials and manscaping obviates the use of night creams...but I still refuse to give up my nose nipples.

Maybe it wasn't a continuity problem, just evidence that the machine wasn't being used consistently and correctly. Last year Braugher's character fought his CPAP, a cause of friction with his wife. At the same time, he couldn't keep up with his buddies jogging, ended up in the hospital, was late for work all the time, and became a source of disappointment to his family. He looked fat and puffy, and was sometimes querulous. Now he's masking up properly and his troubles are behind him -- and no, I don't mean he's suffering from aerophagia.
