Backup machine

Post by chet » Fri Nov 26, 2010 11:46 pm

Hi, I am going to get a backup machine that would also be used for travel. Due some machines hook up to a 12V battery easier than others? I have a Remstar M series,so I do not need a data capable machine. I will still be using my F&P HC150 humidifier,so a built in humidifier is not wanted.I will be paying for this out of pocket. Thanks for you help.

Go to our host's site and read about the different travel sized machines. The descriptions will usually tell you about battery operation: https://www.cpap.com/cpap-machines/trav ... achine.php

I have looked at the site before posting, and I am leaning toward the IntelliPAP AutoAdjust Travel CPAP Machine with SmartFlex.
I was looking for some user reports on various machines.
Emilia, from your posts it seems you are happy with the InteliPAP.

Nice cat you have there Emilia.

I love my IP Auto, but it is the only machine I've ever had so I have nothing with which to compare it to. However, having said that, it has been a wonderful therapy provider for these 3 months that I have used it. It has the longest warranty in the industry, it is super quiet, and if it is just a back up for you, you can use the Smart Codes to get the basic efficacy data without buying the software...although the software will give you more detailed graphs, etc.

This machine is the best selling auto on cpap.com...commanding 48% of the sales for auto machines. See their trends page: https://www.cpap.com/cpap-user-preference.php

to save on filters etc, you might want to buy another M series. Without a humidifier, this CPAP size is very small and easy to carry everywhere, you can put it in a backpack easily. Sam thing with S9 or Pr S1 but then the price will be much lower. I guess you can buy the M series auto for around $100 or the Plus and Pro for less than 100 dollar

I'm curious. Do you plan to travel with that F&P HC150 humidifier? That's an excellent humidifier, but it's a little bulky to carry around! Or, will you simple travel without a humidifier?

If you need a humidifier, then an xpap with built in humidifier is the better way to travel.

Personally, I use my M Series Auto as a backup and travel xpap, with humidifier. I find it travels like a champ, so long as you remember to drain and dry the tank before moving it. The xpap will run directly on 12 vdc, and it also switches to 240vac if necessary. It also auto adjusts to altitude. It has everything you need in a travel pap, except perhaps a built-in battery. And cpap.com has a solution for that!

Best of luck!
I'm workin' on it.

I've had the intellipap and I am currently using an S-9 auto. I travelled and camped with the intellipap. It was great and easy to pack. I used the battery available on the hosts site. battery lasted all night without a problem. I also left the humidifier home and used that space for the battery so it packed really small and easy. Wish I still had the intellipap but had to get the climateline hose because of a hubby that likes a realllllly cold room. even covering the hose wasn't enough. sigh. I am planning to purchase an intellipap to be my backup machine or summer machine.

I think parts, supplies, and being familiar with the operation are all good reasons to buy the same make/model you already have when choosing a spare or back-up machine. It makes life easier when you don't have to stop and think how something works.

I made a DC cord for my M series. But I think most machines will power directly off of DC.

Thanks to all of you for your replies, you have all offered good information.

I have the slide in Remstar humidifier( I have never used it) the difference in size compared to the F&P is not enough to be of concern. I kind of like the idea of a separate humidifier, especially with the blinking blue light troubles of this machine.
