Resmed ACR38U-PNC-R card reader is no good

Post by allend » Thu Nov 11, 2010 11:33 pm

It's not the drivers it's the card reader. The card makes bad contact with the contacts on the reader. If I press the top, it works sometimes and sometimes not.

I have a feeling the readers with the -R at the end of the model # are the bad ones. DME has one that's flakey. I am sending it back but now what?

Anyone else having problems?

I have an -R, it works flawlessly. Bought it new in July.

Maybe build up the thickness of your card with scotch tape on the bottom side, to make it thicker so it makes contact better?

Ditto for the one I bought in April 2010 -- with an R at the end. Have you tried using an eraser on the card contacts to clean them?

Is the card a Smart Media card? If so, just go down to Best Buy or Target and buy a multi-card card reader. It'll cost about $25 to $30 and you can read from 6 to 12 to 33 different memory cards with it, depending on which one you get. I just bought a 6 in 1 reader today from Best Buy to read the SD cards for my S8. Works like a charm. I've been reading the SD card with my old Palm Treo phone with a card export program on it.

You have an S9 not an S8.

S8 and S8 II models do not use an SD card.

Then maybe just the one I got was defective. So what now? Where can I get a working Resmed card reader for s8 machines? Seems like Resmed spends lots of time trying to keep us away from our own therapy?

I purchased one from http://www.cpapshop.com.au/ yesterday. They are still shipping to the US (so far).

Borg, do you live in Australia? I was told they couldn't ship outside of Australia.

Good reason to AVOID S8!

Nope. Good ol' USA.

Oops, typo. I meant I bought the card reader to read the SD cards for my S9.

S8 uses a card of some sort doesn't it? I was surmising from what I see of the tech info for the Resmed Smart Card reader that the S8 uses a Smart Media card. That is a flat card about 1/16" or less thick and about 1" square. If not Smart Meda, then what kind of card is it? It certainly is not a design proprietary to Resmed. That would have never made economic sense. So what I'm suggesting is figure out what kind of card format, or configuration, it is and buy a reader that will read that format. It's that simple. Resscan does not restrict itself to reading only from Resmed branded card readers!

Frog,

True but when my bipap auto m broke the vpap auto 25 was what the DME had. At the time, last December, I wasn't aware of anything else and there still is no S9 bipap.

Can you tell me what your serial number is. I wonder how far off yours is than mine and perhaps the ones that Australia got are different. Mine is RR00100020754

It's still between Australia and here. Hopefully it is not defective!

allend, you're mixing up online DMEs in Australia. cpapaustralia.com.au apparently will no longer ship to the US - HOWEVER, cpapshop.com.au WILL ship them to the US. There are other Australian online CPAP DMEs too - just takes some googling. I got mine from cpapshop.com.au - I chose them because their shipping rates were the most reasonable.
