Full Face Mask Suggestions

Post by Better Sleeper » Thu Nov 11, 2010 4:36 pm

I would like any opinions on what full face mask has the best functionality for my sleeping position. I generally sleep on my side so my face is buried in the pillow which would make it hard to find a full face mask that would not leak or slip off my face in the middle of the night. Right now I use an Opus 360 nasal pillow mask which is almost impossible use when my nose is stuffed up.
Any suggestions?

I personally chose the Liberty. I have used it much as my nose has been staying clear...and I got a nasal steroid from the Dr. I have been using the Swift LT. My only issue with the Liberty was keeping the pillows sealed all night. Now that I have experience using nasal pillows and have seen some of the tricks on here I feel confident that I could keep a pretty good seal with it.

Anytime you " bury your face" in the pillow, you will have trouble with your mask. If you are a side sleeper, sleep with your head at the edge of the pillow with your mask hanging over the side of the pillow.....it works with any mask. I use the Quattro.

I agree w/the burying.
I use an UM small.
I incorporate the pillow into the mask stabilization process.
With my special pillow, I kind of wedge the pillow side of the mask
into the edge of the pillow. If I get a slight leak on the open mask side,
a slight twist of the mask can reposition the papcap lower strap
and it snugs up and all is well.

It's a learned process. I do it almost unconsciously now.

to see or feel those changes, you'll never know what you're capable of."
I said that.

LSAT, I tried your suggestion when I had a trial FFM (Over 2 years ago. Cannot remember the brand). However, I would wake up in the middle of the night sleeping on the middle of the pillow with the mask leaking or partially on my face. That is why I swithed to the Opus 360 mask.

I'm a side sleeper and my Fisher Paykel 431 does fine. I just have to be careful not to burrow too much or the exhalation holes get blocked by the pillow. I sleep with a cheap Wallyworld side sleeper's pillow, and it's soft enough that the mask isn't knocked to the side.

This is what I use too.

I too am a side sleeper and Loooovvvvee burying my face into my pillow. Last night was night #2 for me with my Zzz mask and I am very happy with it. The majority of the mask is rubbery, so it is a little more flexible than most masks. It does not have a forehead piece, so I still get some of the sensory feeling of my pillow against my face. On the flip side, it does not seal as well as most masks and the headgear needs constant adjusting. Once I get it adjusted each night, I am good to go, so far anyway. Good luck in your search!

I'm a side/stomach down sleeper for the most part using an auto bi-level and have had good results with the Quattro as well. Getting a pillow may be well worth it too.

Everybody is different. Find what works for you. I sleep exclusively on my side. For me, it is part of my method to bury the side of my mask into the pillow, then adjust the straps on the "up" side to prevent leaks. I wear either the Ultra Mirage or the Mirage Quattro. Just make sure, if you bury the mask in the pillow, that you don't block the vent.

I'm one month new at this, but being a stomach/side sleeper have found the Mirage Liberty does a fine job when I use a CPAP pillow. I TRY to sleep on my side, but often wake up in the morning on my stomach. Somehow I can position my head on the pillow so the mask goes into the C-void without causing leaks, dislodging my mask or blocking the vents. It took me a few minor readjustments to get just the right comfy vs practical positions so I could sleep easily.

Cheers,

I've been going back and forth between the Mirage Quattro and the Zzz-Mask. I like them both and one night one is cool, another night the other is. To the point of blocking the exhaust ports, I never have slept face-down enough to do that but I also have a fairly firm and tall side sleeper memory foam pillow. I also have a Papillow Minipap that I do use from time to time (usually nights when it is warmer in here).

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
I just got back from the DME, and after speaking with the RT and taking all of your suggestions into account, I went with the Resmed Mirage Quattro Full Face mask. It was a difficult decision between the mask I chose and two other masks, which were the Resmed Liberty Full Face mask and the FlexiFit HC431 Full Face mask. Hopefully, I made the right decision. I guess I will find out when I have a stuffy nose or a cold.

I think you'll like that one. I turn to it most often when I am stuffy and is one that always goes in my travel bag when I can't have a big selection with me.
