Windows 7 Starter

Post by joelrk35 » Sun Oct 31, 2010 12:05 pm

I am looking for a new Netbook for travel and downloading (uploading?) my cpap data from a ResMed S8 Autoset II. Most of the netbooks I see advertised come with Windows 7 Starter. Has anyone any experience with this OS ? Also would appreciate any input on Netbooks. I now have an IMAC and a Macbook but they are a couple of years old and it looks like I would need to upgrade OSX 4.1 and buy a Windows OS which would cost more than a Netbook. Appreciate any input.

I am also looking at Netbooks with Windows 7 Starter. All I know at the moment is that Windows 7 Starter is 32 bit.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit on my desktop. My Encore Viewer 2.0 works fine on it.

Will I be able to install my Encore Viewer 2.0 on Windows 7 Starter and upload my data with no problem?

I don't know if I am asking the same question as the OP or not!

Windows 7 starter has limited features. I am not sure of the particulars other than it is mostly a way for Microsoft to get you to pay for an upgrade to Windows 7 home. Lots of netbooks now come with the full Windows 7 home now. Netbooks are great! The only problem with them is that their screen resolution can be low (1024X600). When you enlarge the image on the screen, it just doesn't quite cut it. Again, lots of netbooks are coming out with higher resolution screens too.

So has Netbook, Netbook has it's place, but it's not a replacement for a working computer. For many people it's ok, just don't expect it to rule the world, it might rule a parking lot. Jim

Window 7 Starter Edition does not have the Aero user interface, DVD playback, Windows Media Center, internet connection sharing and the built-in IIS Web Server. All of these are included in Windows 7 Home Premium.

I have a netbook with Windows 7 starter, I am not too tech savvy, but I did install the rescan software and it works fine.

Anyone install Encore Viewer 2.0 on a netbook running Windows 7 Starter and have it running successfully?

Thanks

Update - I just got a netbook with Windows 7 Starter running. It is 32 bit. I installed Encore Viewer 2.0 on it yesterday and it is running without a hitch. I was able to save my data to my Documents too.

In other words, it works just as well on Starter as it does on my desktop with Windows 7 Home Premuim 32 bit.

The netbook is kind of a backup for me now. I plan to use it for other things too but just have a couple of programs installed for now, Encore Viewer 2 being one of them.
