Questions about new machine

Hi,
New to the forum and OSA and have some questions. First off, I'm a 30yo skinny male that was diagnosed with OSA (AHI of 50). ENT looked in my mouth and was in disbelief of the test results. In any case, I recently got my equipment and have some questions. I have a ResMed S9 Auto w/Resmed Quattro (full) mask. I'm having trouble getting the adjustments right on the mask as I either wake up in the middle of the night with air escaping around the nose or I wake up because it is too tight and my nose hurts. I presume I'm not the first to have this problem? Any suggestions? Also, I'd like to measure my O2 desat at night but it looks like you can't buy the oximeter yourself. I asked my home care company to look into it and they said they'd get back to me but I haven't heard back. Do you all have any recommendations for standalone units that are cheap, comfortable, and that log data so I can view it the next day? Thanks for the help!

You might benefit from a mask liner...it will help you get a better seal and also make it a bit more comfortable. Others will be along to give you advice on that as I do not use them. Or do a search above for 'mask liner' .

The oximeter that works with your machine is very expensive to use....because the software to read it costs several hundred dollars. Look for the CMS 50 E or F models....put that into the search window above and there will be tons to read about it. I use the CMS50E which comes with its own software included. It is a remarkable little recording oximeter and the software is very easy to use. I got the whole shebang for about $120 online.

if the mask contacts your nose its too small, they come in a range of sizes

The Quattro runs LARGE.....be sure that you have the right size. I was measured as a large, but I had soo many leaks that I exchanged it for a medium. Be sure you are adjusting it properly. Start with the dial turned way out...with the nose piece farthest from you. Then start to tighten it slowly until leaks in the nose disappear. You might also move it down your nose about 1/8 - 1/4 inch. The bottom of the mask should be just below your lower lip.

Top straps for holding it on, bottom straps for leaks at the base, dial at the top for leaks at the nose.

Take the mask off, turn your machine on. Lay down, put mask on. Tighten top straps till it sticks to your head.

Dial dial out quite a ways.

CLick bottom straps into place.

Tighten bottom straps.

Dial in until no leak in nose.

Move around, see if it leaks. Find the leak, tighten down the area where it is leaking.

If this doesn't work, might be the sizing.
