Too comfortable too much sleep

Post by freshair » Sat Oct 30, 2010 8:48 am

I have slept better in the last 39 days than I have in the last 20 yrs--I now find myself sleeping 9-10 hrs a day and when I awake I have to make myself get out of bed-I'm not tired I just feel comfortable---Before I got my cpap I could only sleep 4 hrs a night--I would only get about 8 hrs sleep 3-4 times a year--Will this cause me problems down the dream road to sleep too much ?--I am 66 yrs--FA

It does take time to recover from the damage done to your body by the lack of oxygen. The first couple of months I slept in one position for 8-10 hours too, but not any more, my body has enough on 7 hours now.
I don't leap out of bed anymore either - there is no longer any adrenaline rush from nearly dieing to make me leap out of my comfy bed - only the dog that needs to get out and a cat that wants to be fed NOW!

Yep, you're probably just still in catch up mode. I don't find that I'm sleeping more, just getting 8-9 hours of good, recuperative sleep every night with my APAP.

When first starting CPAP 2 years ago I couldn't wait to go to bed and experience a good nights rest without the restless gasping and sweating and BR breaks every hour sleep became good for me with the air up my nose. Lately I started to experience waking every 3 hours sweats and BR breaks I readjusted my pressures and VOILA I sleep through the night sweetly and don't want to get up early Blessed CPAP don't ever want to go to bed without it and know when sleep changes to recheck things.

I wake up in the morning feeling so calm and wonderful with the cool, filtered air going into my nose from the barely there FX. I find I don't want to get out of bed, and on Saturdays I indulge myself and just lie there for an hour or so, listening to my iPod or reading blogs on my Palm. Bliss.

Despite that, I still wake and get out of bed earlier than I did pre-CPAP and feel infinitely more rested.

I sometimes have the feeling that if the general public knew how good this could feel they'd be selling CPAP machines everywhere and it would be illegal in some states.

I am going on 6 months of 10 hrs of straight sleep. I asked my Doc and he said get everything I can, I was used to 6 hrs of bad sleep since age 12.
