Remstar Auto w C flex, card and software

Post by cortez356 » Thu Oct 28, 2010 7:25 pm

What does a remstar Auto w/ Cflex use for a smart card? Is it propriatory? Where can you get a card reader for this card? What is the lineage of the Respironics line? Is it Remstar Auto, Remstar series M and then the newer System One?

Thanks

i have a machine like yours and just found out you can insert your SD card right into your PC/laptop slot and it reads it automatically--says it has its own reader! tried to install using my husband's SD reader and it kept saying 'failed'. my son slid the card into the slot and it worked fine!

Series M has a proprietary card and reader. Check our hosts at CPAP.com for the reader.

System One machines use a standard SD card you can put in any standard card reader.

Both Series M and System One have a "Remstar Auto" in their lines. The System one says Remstar Auto with A-flex. Not sure about the Series M Auto.

The M series auto has two different ones --- the older model M series auto has C-FLEX while the newer M model has A-FLEX. I have the older version that has C-FLEX.

OK. The unit I am considering is an older unit. Maybe 4 yars old but with less than 50 hours The pictures I have show it to be quite different than the M series. The humidifier is not behind any door or cover. It appears that the unit mounts on top of the humidifier?

Without the special card reader what type of reports will the machine show on the screen? I want to be able to titrate myself. By the time I buy the unit, then the card reader I may as well buy something newer. Thanks

That type of machine uses a priopriatory card reader... has to be a MAKO DT 3500 (mine's labelled INFINEER). Nothing else works.

Will that card reader work with at least XP? D you need a special driver or will windows recognize the unit? Do you need the Encore 1 or will encore 2 work?

Thanks

I'm running with that same card reader... on Vista... Vista found the driver for me. With XP I needed to use the driver that came with the software.

Just make sure that you don't have a 64 bit operating system... something about that just doesn't work.

It can use either Encore 1 or Encore 2

Thanks cflame: One more question. Has anyone found the software on the net ( Can you spell piracy?). I see it but the sites look like fronts for malware.

That machine is a couple of generations old. I think it has a reputation for being kind of noisy, but otherwise it's a good machine.

Is that going to be your main machine???

No: If I buy this it is just an experiment. I was diagnosed with very little sleep panea. maybe UARS. I asked the Doc for prescription and he did give me one. Others on this forum thought that maybe a CPAP might help. My oximetry test showed some very low oxygen levels. I have ordered a good oximeter and would like to test myself before commiting to a machine. I think I would buy the Intellipap. A REsmed S9 would be nice but awfully pricey for just a test. I was looking for a used auto CPAP and the rmestar caught my attention. At first I thought it was a series M. Most of the used ones I see are not auto or are older. I was offered a System One complete for $450. New open box. I am not crazy about the Intellipap reporting sytem. I see that you can add a decent card slot but with the software it adds about $120.00 to the price. I am trying to be logical and will have to wait for the oximetry results next week. I want a good sleep so badly!!!

If that's the situation, you definitely need one of the later model CPAP's with full data capablity.

The danger is that too much pressure could cause central apneas, and you could end up with more problems than you started with. Only the newer models detect and report centrals.

The PR S1 for $450 sounds OK IF the humidifier is included. Otherwise you'll have to add money for that (especially if you have UARS, humidification will be helpful) AND another $99 for software to read the card. So be sure to figure those expenses in when making your decision.

Hopefully you can work with your doctor on this. You seem very well self-educated, but it's still good to have medical advice.
