Quattro "Pro" ?

Post by pratzert » Thu Oct 28, 2010 10:07 am

I have read some posts here and there where people refer to a Resmed Quattro "Pro" and also have referred to just a "Quattro".

Is it the same product or are there really TWO spearate products... Quattro and a Quattro "Pro" ?

And can anyone explain the differences between thre "Quattro" ( Or Quattro Pro) and the Mirage or Ultra Mirage ?

I'm running over to the dreaded DME to get Mask fitting and want to be informed educated.

I had planned to ask for a Quattro "Pro" but all I can see on thre Resmed website is one called merely the "Quattro" adn no "Pro" model.

The Quattro, or Quattro Pro, is my first choice but I may want the Resmed "Ultra MIrage" as a second choice. Can anyone point out the differences between those two ?

Thanks a lot.

Thanks,

Tim

I have never heard of the Quattro Pro.....The Quattro and the Ultra Mirage are both Resmeds. They are very similar. The Quattro has the forhead dial which some people like. The Ultra Mirage comes in regular and Shallow sizes which will accomodate different nose shapes. If you are going to a DME you have a 30 day trial period. Try the Quattro and if it is not comfortable have them exchange it for the UM. Personally I have tried several FF masks and found the Quattro to be the most comfortable FOR ME.

LSAT,

Thanks a bunch for the info.

I have had the same recommendation from some of the other extremely helpful people here on the forum.

So it's good to hear you like yours..... I think that's what I'll pick up at the DME if I can.

The Quattro is what I used for my last study and it seems pretty good.

Thanks again.

Tim

I have tried three different full face masks at the DME and still go back to the Quattro with the dial.

Quattro Pro is a spreadsheet program developed by Borland and still sold by Corel. I used to use it frequently, and when I see the word Quattro I associate it with Pro. I think the reference to a Quattro Pro mask may be just absent mindedness by some old spreadsheet users.

Geez... I have a copy of the old Borland Quattro Pro spreadsheet program somewhere in my house. Borland used to be one of the bigger players in the software world.

Remember dBase IV from Ahston Tate ? I believe that Borland bought them out and then finally just fizzled away.

dBase IV was the Gold Standard for databases.

Although both are similar it seems that those who use the Quattro can't adjust as well to the UM and vice versa. Although I like the design of the Quattro I find the UM to be more stable and leak free. It's a puzzlement!

Thanks for the info.

I hope I will have made the correct choice for me by getting the Quattro instead of the UM.

trip68,

Good to know that it seems to be your favorite.

Since my pressure has been increased to 14 ( up form 10 ) I think I will definately do better with a FF mask.

My next problem is going to learn how to deal with the aerophagia that seems to have gotten much worse with the increased pressure.

Oh well.... one step at a time.

This reminds me how DMEs alienate their customers. I use the Quattro. When I asked to try the UM, I was told that the Quattro was an improved UM, and therefore the latter wouldn't fit any better. That kind of laziness and indifference is all too common. Without this forum, who would challenge statements like that? Lots of people report liking one more than the other, not out of quality differences, but just because of the remarkable variations of the human face.

What you might try is GRADUALLY increasing your pressure. Go to 11 for a fer days...then 12...etc.

LSAT,

Good suggestion.

I am installing Encore Pro onto my home PC and will be able to monitor my stats once again.

So I plan on using my machine as an APAP as I had been doing for the last 3 1/2 years. Until I got the new software, I had setup my machine as a CPAP just to be safe. But Now I can set up as Auto and set my lower pressure at my "Old" setting of 10 and the upper end I'll leave at the aMaximum and check my stats.

Thanks, Tim

I went on CPAP twenty months ago and opted for the Mirage Quattro FFM and have never regretted it. This mask has been used daily ever since, with no alternates; that's 4256 hours according to my Resmed machine and my average leak rate for the past thirty days is only .02L/s, a pretty good number for an average pressure of 18.2

A word of advice ...... it's probably the fitting that turns users off certain masks. My Quattro is a small with a medium headgear but I believe there are four sizes of Quattro facemasks and three sizes of headgear. I'm a pretty big guy and one would not have immediately presumed that a small facemask was appropriate ..... but then again my feet were only size ten and my wife said she wasn't surprised I only needed a small. What did she mean by that?

After 600+ nights of use, the only issue with this mask is the headgear has lost most of its elasticity/stretchyness and the velcro is weakening. For the last couple of months, I have been supplementing the headgear with a single continuous piece of velcro I picked up at a hardware store and wrap completely around the mask and my head. It's been great since I tend to roll around on my front, back and sides while sleeping and the extra velcro keeps everything firmly in place.

Good luck

I agree, I have both masks, and prefer the Quattro.

I have also experienced the elastic stretch. I have to tighten it every once in awhile, or leaks occur.
