Just tell him. IF he gets in a twit it is time for a different sleep doctor. Unless you present it to him as an "I did better than you did" he should congratulate you on feeling better and suggest that you both take a good look at the data after you've been at your pressure change for at least a week or longer. Probably he will want a month's data.

Is there a reason that you chose such a narrow range (and one that doesn't include your previous pressure)? It seems to me that you might get more interesting information if you could see what pressure you auto-titrate to given a range that includes your prescribed pressure. That way you could prove that the machine will not keep you on that pressure given the chance.
I agree with the principle that you should share whatever you're doing with your doctor. You don't want your doctor coming to conclusions based on mistaken data. You should try to get the benefit of all that education he's undergone.
