Papcap ??'s

Post by trytryagain » Tue Oct 26, 2010 6:12 am

Does anyone use a papcap? I have lots of thick slippery hair. My headgear tends to slide around unless I really make it tight, and then I get soreness and red marks. I would use it more for the containment of my hair than the chin strap capabilities. What do you do if you have long thick hair? A ponytail is not an option because it makes an uncomfortable bump.

I have thick hair as well... I gather my hair and feed it through the straps at the back of the mask. Almost like a pony tail but not quite.

Keeps the headgear from slipping.

I use a knit cap the fits just on the crown of my head- it holds the mask steady and also takes up some slack in straps that are slightly too long. I tried a swimmers cap, but found it too slippery. Good luck

Have you tried putting a small piece of velcro on each side of the offending strap?
Not the fuzzy side of the velcro but the prickly side. I have it on all of my masks, don't know its there when you put the headgear on but it sure stops them from slipping on your hair.
Cheers

If you need a chinstrap...the papcap is teriffic. It's comfortable and it stays put. (Hair is not a problem for me)

I have the same problem. My hair is very fine and soft. I bought a surgical cap (scrub cap) that I wear under my headgear, it seems to help.

I use the PAPCap every night and have fine slippery hair. My mask seems to stay in place better, but more importantly, I don't have any more mouth leaks!

Slick, superfine hair -- I make sure I have some firm control hair spray in my hair where the straps go. Works like a charm to anchor my straps. Without it, my hair's way too slick and the straps just slide, slide, slide all night until my mask shifts postion & pulls the pillows loose.

Here's what you do:
Go to a tool place frequented by motorcyclists.
Buy a bandanna cap like bikers wear under the helmet. (Smile at the mean-looking guys--but don't talk too much)
At a fabric store, get a remnant or 1/4 yard (full width) of flannel and a package of Velcro or no-name hook & loop (sew-on)
Do not get a fat quarter, as they are not full width--also usually not flannel.
Make a 'Sturgis' chinstrap: While emulating the width and length of strap in the Papcap Pictures, cut, fold, etc.
No pins! yes, you have to sew. Needle & thread is not that hard--just do it.
If the knot at the back is un-comfy--you got Velcro--use it.
Ta-daa. Good luck.

I didn't know that a Papcap was until I opened this discussion being rather new to the whole hose culture. I also ran into the same problem but I have a wide variety of just the thing in my closet. I use Headsweats skull caps under my bicycle helmet. Nice and thin with a wide variety of styles including with tails to tie or a skullcap. They also have some very nice Coolmax fabric versions that are excellent when it is hot.

Did the trick for me. Straps don't slip and I don't have helmet hair at the cycling club coffee stop or strap hair from the hose in the morning

Same for me. I ordered a Papcap along with some other supplies from cpap.com over 3 weeks ago.

Its a major pain for me because unlike other on line vendors cpap.com will not ship the other parts of the order that i need separately, they will hold up the entire order until they get the pap caps in. I've called twice and the phone reps convinced me to wait both times with the "oh it will be in a few days reply". Eventually i had to cancel the order.

Its a double whammy for me because i ordered a mask liner from pad a cheek about 2 weeks ago and had to ask where my order is and they are out of stock too.

Its a bad time for cpap supplies
