I'm probably going to see if I can get a different nasal pillow...but before I do. Is it normal to wake up and feel like the pressure is lighter than when I went to sleep. I had to look at the machine this morning to make sure it was at the right pressure (9). It felt as if there was barely any pressure coming through...not like when I first turn it on. Is my body getting used to it or am I having mask problems? I also noticed that when wearing the swift lt that I can open my mouth without a problem, whereas when I first tried it out and even during my sleep study (when I wore a nasal mask) that opening my mouth was difficult.
So, do I need to try a different mask? Maybe a chin strap too? Help!
waking up feeling like the pressure has decreased
Re: waking up feeling like the pressure has decreased
jmb, this sounds perfectly normal to me. I know my body adjusts to the pressure and at times I have to pull the mask away from my face to assure myself it's still working! As long as you're not waking up gasping for air, or feeling starved of oxygen, or having other OSA symptoms, it's probably fine.
If you are having symptoms, you might need a pressure adjustment.

Yes, it is normal to wake up and feel like the pressure has decreased. All it means is you are getting use to the pressure and sleeping with a cpap machine.

jmb, thank you for posting this question.
As a week-old newbie at this, I noticed over the weekend that on waking, it was like there was no pressure. Even though the machine said it was correct, it wasn't until I opened my mouth that I knew the pressure was OK.
Finding out this is 'normal', I feel much better.
Cheers,
Xena

Totally normal, unless you are having an unusual amount of apnea events toward the morning as DreamLady said. Sounds like you are doing well!

I've noticed that I will open my mouth and nothing will come out...until I try and talk. I was just concerned that it wasn't working because I don't feel any better. The one thing I did notice is that I didn't move around as much last night. I'm hoping I got the fit right on my mask...I will try this mask for a while longer.xenablue wrote:jmb, thank you for posting this question.
