Oxygen supplementation

Do they make oxygen supplementation that is dependent upon the reading of an Digital Finger Pulse Oximeter at any given moment, or is it just oxygen ON or oxygen OFF?

I think they make the decision based on a more comprehensive test than an overnight finger one, though if that one is done in a clinical setting rather than your own bed, maybe it's also used, but the point would be a very good test, at different levels, rather than just 'on' or 'off' (or am I wrong?). I don't think they 'hand out' scripts for 02 lightly.

02 is a treatment for a completely different disorder. Get a PSG, if they don't put you on 02, you don't need it.

I have COPD and am on 02 as needed during the day as well as 02 supplementation all night long in conjunction w/my bi-level PAP.

To the best of my knowledge 02 is administered only as On or Off. When used w/PAP the 02 must be continuous flow. During the day it can be administered as continuous flow OR w/a pulse regulator. Pulse means the regulator senses when you inhale and administers a "pulse" of 02 rather than a continuous flow of 02. I don't do as well on pulse as I do continuous but pulse does conserve 02 and the portable 02 tank will last longer. It allows me to get where I am going when I am out and about w/a smaller, more convenient 02 tank to lug around.
