REMstar pro CPAP--downloadable info?

Post by jec » Fri Nov 11, 2005 7:18 pm

Newbie here, searching old posts and I am having a bit of a hard time deciphering some of the stuff I have found.

Is the machine I have a good one, middle of the road or junk?

My machine is the REMstar Pro CPAP (with CFlex) and I think my initial pressure is set to 6cm from my sleep study about a year ago. I know from a follow up visit 8 months ago they can download hours used each night but don't know if this machine is capable of showing other useful data such as number of apneas/hypopneas. I have a doc visit coming up in a few weeks and am going to request a different mask (probably full face) and am considering asking for a machine that I can start tracking my nightly events if this one is not capable. I know I will have to buy a card reader and software but I have good insurance (for now) and want to get the best machine I can in case that should change.

I have the usual problems, limited success with keeping my mask on through the night, also mouth leakage problems, mask leaks, etc, etc and after reading for the last couple of days I am committed to getting serious about doing all I can to get the best results from this treatment. So far I have not slept through the night more tha a dozen times in the last year and just assumed it was normal to wake up with the mask in the floor and the machine still blowing.

I have felt bad for so long that I don't remember what it's like to feel normal. Any advice is appreciated!

jec-

If the mask you're using isn't working out well for you, then you might want to look into other types. I went through kind of what you're describing. Only MY problem was more with the bulky headgear than the mask itself. Getting into it and out of it was like trying to get out of wet leather clothing. (Used to ride motorcycles a LOT... caight in heavy rains more times than I care to remember).

Anyways... for a while I actually gave up on CPAP. I just wasn't tolerating it well. THen I decided I wanted to be around a while longer and I better figure it out. Tried a different mask and lo and behold I was sleeping through the night.

I learned a few things about myself. ONE... don't bother trying to use a mask that has the hose running up between my eyes. I wear glasses and this REALLY bothered me. TWO... go for the least amount of headgear that'll hold it in place properly. In my case I found one with NO headgear. Your mileage may vary, but this is really a bit of a learning experience. Use what you LIKE because if you don't, you won't USE it!

Your machine sounds good to me. I have a 5 year old SoloLX. I may be looking to upgrade but for me it'll be out of pocket.

I believe the Pro only records compliance data (how long you use the machine each night) The newer Pro II has the stuff you're looking for.

Thanks! I will see how much success I have trying to get my Doc to prescribe a new machine.

frostman-

it's one that apparently is not very popular and I'm apparently one of the few people that have had anything good to say about it.
It has drawbacks and that's why I'm shopping for a new mask. But it got me back to using my CPAP so that's a plus in my book.

You can see my post about it at the end of this thread.
