comfortable full face masks other than quattro

Post by nanwilson » Tue Oct 12, 2010 2:24 pm

Hi Guys
Is there any other full face mask or just nasal masks that do not shred your bridge of the nose or come too close to your eyes. I like the quattro but I will wake up with swollen eyes after a couple of days using it....and of course the nose bridge problem. I tried nasal pillows, but can't wear them for more than a couple of days either...my sinuses start to act up and I am sneezing and blowing constantly. I have a Swift LT and an Optilife, both do the same. I quesse my left nasal/sinus cavity is not built the same as my right and the pillow sits in the wrong place. So far I'm kinda stuck with swollen eyes (especially my left) or sinus problems every few days. I need a face mask that doesn't push in that sensitive spot just below my eyes. Does anyone have a suggestion or a way to get around it? Please no replies from Calist....that opinionated guy is a pain in the you know what.
Thanks
Nan

You might want to look at the InnoMed Hybrid mask:

Thanks John
I had look up that one, but the pillows do a job on my left nostril. I kinda have a crooked nose and the pillow sits in the wrong spot blowing air all night. If I could find a half size version of the quattro I would be a happy camper.
Cheers

I found the Ultra Mirage FFM to have a different footprint (specifically, I think it is shorter from top to bottom of the cushion) which eliminated the same puffy-eye thing that I had with the Quattro. I have never had a nose-bridge problem with FFM's, but I think the different shape of the UM FFM may allow you to move the mask up or down slightly on your nose to find the sweet spot.
DeVilbiss IntelliPap Std Plus with Smartflex; Transcend miniCPAP & Everest2 w/humidifier & batt for travel. UltraMirage FFM; PadACheeks; PaPillow. Using straight CPAP at 13.0/passover humidifier. AHI consistently < 1.5. Began CPAP 9/4/08.

You can cut the pillows apart so that you can "arrange" them or use different sizes for each nostril.

I just might go with that one as I do actually like my quattro, if the mirage is just a tad shorter it would work. Now I'll have to wait until cpapauction gets resmed back up and running so that I can buy one. Or...does anyone have a mirage ultra for sale, my quattro is a medium so I expect the mirage would be the same.
Thanks all....much appreciated

Have you tried the cradle cushion with your Optilife mask? It works perfectly for me.

UMFF! The Quattro is an upgrade for the UM but hubby could not use the Quattro and does well with the UM.

Your advice is much appreciated.

One more thought: Did you try the Small size Quattro? It is possible that you are just spanning too large an area of your face, and that is what may be causing the leaking around your eyes. I personally liked the much greater range of nose-bridge adjustment offered by the Quattro than by the UM FFM. I really recommend that you go in to any DME which carries these two masks, and ask to try them on with your pressure on the machine. You don't need to buy one there, but the sizing would save a lot of experimental money.

I haven't tried the UM FF mask but I know the "Q" can be a blessing and a curse. I found the Fisher and Paykel forma more comfortable only because it has a "shelf" to put your chin in. I was getting zits around my lower lip from the quattro. Th forma doesn't have the adjustment feature at the nose that the "Q" has but it can be worn without the gray insert if it feels better on your nose.
Hope that helps,
Shar:)
