CPAP Works!

Post by ched03 » Tue Oct 12, 2010 9:48 am

Just wanted to update everyone with some very exciting news. I have been using my CPAP every night since I started in February (with exception to the nights that my allergies are really bad.) This past weekend I rode my bike in the MS 150 her in San Antonio. I completed all 70 miles on the first day and 60 miles on the second day. That is 130 miles in one weekend. This is coming from someone who could not stay awake while driving and would go to sleep for the night at about 7pm and would wake up the next morning feeling like I could sleep for at least 24 more hours. I could never stay awake to watch a whole 30 minute sitcom! I now have so much energy that I was able to do this amazing ride and had energy to spare! If any of you are feeling down or doubtful that this will work, just keep trying! You will be very pleased with the results!

Congrats

I also was able to get back on the bike after starting on CPAP. I went from struggling to get up at 8am and drive to work to getting up at 6am and riding in the 12 miles.

I'm not sure i could do 130 miles in one weekend though

Way to go! My exercise of choice is walking half marathons trying to finish in about 3 hours.

Congrats! Two thumbs up! Kudos! Way to go!

MS rides are a lot of fun,
a grand accomplishment,
and really appreciated.

Where are the pics?

I'll see you on the road sometime.

Congrats!

Has anyone's experience been that less sleepiness/feeling better happens verrrrrrry slowly, so slowly you barely notice it, until you look back at what you were doing a month ago?

I have been using CPAP about 3 months, and that has been my experience. I am slooooowly regaining some energy. At this rate it'll take me a couple years to be back to my old self (I have severe sleepiness, fatigue, oversleeping. Been that way 9 years). At least things are moving in a positive direction, for once. But still.....very slow. Anyone?

I am hoping and envisioning myself being extremely athletic like I used to be, but I can tell it will be a long process (not building up the athletic abilities, but just getting rid of the symptoms resulting from OSA). Hoping that's normal.
Symptoms: severe daytime sleepiness and fatigue/tiredness, oversleeping and hypersomnia, dark circles around eyes, sometimes brain fog.

Cpap therapy helps will cycling recovery. Way to go… 130 miles in weekend is huge!!! I’m on my way to recovery as well and after 30 days of being on cpap I’m finally getting some good miles in on my bike.

Congrats!! What an accomplishment. I did my first half marathon last Dec. and have done some 5 & 10K's all since starting cpap therapy. There was no way I could have done this before.

Remember you have been starving your body of O2 for 9 years. I had a fast zoom and then seemed to plateau for a year but now I am working out and losing weight. Try to start by doing some exercise a little every day.

My recovery seemed very gradual. I am getting more and more active each day! Thanks for all of the congrats! My next goal is to get off of the Welbutrin that I was put on prior to CPAP therapy. We have tried to wean me off of it once already but I got very tired. Maybe by the year mark I will be free.
