Resmed Autoset Spirit and Humidaire 2i humidifier???

Post by Colorado Jan » Thu Nov 10, 2005 4:47 pm

Okay, that's the setup I've been using the last 2 weeks. I've been feeling kind of dried out (Colorado, remember!, lol), but no rainout so I was kind of proud that I was able to keep the humidifier on a low setting and be "okay". Then, lol....I put on my reading glasses and lo and behold, the humidifier has almost been on the highest setting all this time. But I don't feel the humidity. Am I doing something wrong?

My last humidifer (DeVilbiss) had a separate on/off switch. This Humidaire 2i doesn't appear to? I think you just snap it in and you only turn on the APAP portion and it automatically turns on. And I've even looked at that with the reading glasses, so I think I'm right on that one. I've noticed the "warming light" goes on and off intermittently. Not sure what triggers that reaction.

Oh, ALSO....last night according to the little LCD readout, I had an AHI of 10.4!!! Previous nights have been around 4-5 AHI. My prescribed pressure was 9...I've got the Auto set at 8-14. Should I try some other setting? I'm okay with the 4-5 AHI range, after all, when I did my sleep study my original untreated AHI was 85, so that is a significant improvement. But 10 seems a little high, doesn't it?

Any advice for me?

Hi Jan,
The important question is not what your numbers are, but how do you feel after sleeping the night. I use the same machine and humidifier, and also have a PB420E I use mostly for travel. My average AHI, as measured by my Spirit, is between 8-9, but I sleep like a rock and am never tired during the day. I don't know how accurately the equipment is in measuring events. Maybe someone can enlighten both of us with respect to that. I just hope you feel good all day on your machine.

The Autoset Spirit does have a off position for the heater on the humidifier. By turning the humidifier control knob fullly counter clockwise you will feel a click signifying that the heater is fully off.

I live in colorado as well and I preferred my air kind of dry. The humidifier does automatically starts heating when you start the machine to whatever setting on the big mechanical knob is set for. The warming that you see when press the left or right button is the preheat that last for about 15 minutes to get the water warmer before you start using the machine.

Yep, John....that is what I thought was happening. That big knob selects the level of moisture and the warming feature, well, warms. But I was very surprised to see I already had it at level 5 or something, there is not much coming out of it.

Well, I'll fiddle with it and try it again tonight. We'll see what happens.

Jan,
I've never used, or even seen a humidaire - but I remembered rested gal didn't have to many good words to say about it. Did a search for huimdair* with rested gal as author - (arranged according to posts) - I suggest you do that --

Really...I'll have to do that after I woke up with my throat parched for some reason.

Funny...I put the humidifier in without fiddling with any buttons, and it didn't go on till I pushed the red button a couple times. I waited for quite a while to see if the light would come on, or not too. Maybe mine's a different model *shrug* It does say in the manual that the light will come on intermittently when it's working, not stay on constantly...

Jan... there is an 800 number for resmed...you can talk for free with a tech on the west coast and they will walk you thru the questions that you have- much better than what you can learn from your local yokel that set you up. I found that I was able to adjust myself to the machine a lot easier than the limited knowledge that the woman that set me up
You will find the number for Resmed in your manuals

My first ResMed the S7 Lightweight did not come with any manuals not even for my Humidaire2i that I got from my DME.

The second machine I purchased out of pocket I received all manuals and the Humidaire 2i I purchased out of pocket came with a manual. I am trying to figure out why our manuals with the DMEs are so secretive.

I have never had the problem of my Humidaire 2i not to warm up. My heat plate is warm.

I hope you can get your problem resolved.

Severeena, the warming plate is warm, there is just not much in the way of humidity coming out of it, especially compared to the last humidifier I had (which has been returned to the DME).

But now I have it cranked up all the way to Level 6, I think it is...the highest notch. And I can feel a "bit" of humidity. A "bit". So let's hope that is going to be enough for the dry winter months.

I do really like the Spirit, though. I feel good with it, so I guess it is doing its job...but I really like the little LCD readout that gives you basic info about your previous sleep session. You can wake up, press a couple of buttons and presto....there is a readout of how many apneas, hypopneas and the leak ratio right there handy. (Also available averages for the previous week and month) No software or computers needed. (For those not familiar with this machine, there IS software available that apparently gives a more detailed report as well).

So let's all cross our fingers that a little bit of humidity is going to do it for me through the winter months. It really is dry here in Colorado. My poor sister-in-law, who was visiting here the past couple of nights from humid Oklahoma, had bloody noses all three nights she was here! Obviously I'm more acclimated to this climate that she was, but humidifiers are a necessity here.

I have plenty of moisture with mine set on 4.

I guess my Humidaire 2i is working pretty good.

Jan, I just posted this question elsewhere today. That was before I did some looking and found your post.

Last night was the first night using a humidifier. I have the Humidaire 2i. I started at a 3 setting, and went up to 6 in the night, and still didn't feel humidity or warmth. As you said, the water has gone somewhere, but I sure didn't feel it. I woke up with a dry mouth and had to keep taking my mask off at night just to drink water. My nose is dry today. Gosh, I hope this starts to work. I can't afford another. I hope you find some relief too. Nita

You need to start the warming cycle then turn on the control knob..

I set mine between three to four and if I want more moisture I turn it up to five and I get plenty of moisture including my face washed at night.

What ResMed unit do you have?
