FX pillow tears or weakens at metal base?

Post by Flower51 » Sun Oct 10, 2010 4:14 pm

I find the fx pillow pops out of the metal base easily for cleaning but to get it back in has been another story...wondering if I just don't have the knack yet or am being too rough with it at the metal ring. Concerned it will mess up the pillows to do this on a daily basis as the manufacturer suggests. Any advice or exp re same? T

Yep--that is the same story here----it pops out of the metal base easily for cleaning but to get it back in is a real chore. That is one reason I have not been using it right now among others. I have watched the video twice and I can't see any other way to get them back on other than twisting and smashing them on the round metal ring---very hard for me to get them back on.

I too have the Swift FX and have problems getting it put back together. Difficult but not impossible. I think it gets easier with practice and I've only had mine a month so I don't know if removing and reinserting the swivel will break down the mask or not. Maybe someone who has been using this mask and been doing frequent cleanings will post and let us know.

Pinch it in the middle so you sort of make the round hole wide and oval shaped. Insert half of the based into the hole, then gently stretch the rest of it on. Takes practice, but once you figure it out, it's not really that hard.

I've never had a problem with tearing or weakening there. It's the nasal pillows that give out first.

Thanks for the ideas. This is such a great improvement over other masks I've used that I really want these pillows to last! Last couple of days I just took a soft cloth and cleaned it w/some ro water w/out taking the pillows off of the metal part. T

Dear Flower,

I also found it much easier to take off than it is to put on. So, I uses cpap wipes on the days that I work for quick cleaning and Saturday and Sunday I take off the nasal pillows and wash in Ivory Dish Washing liquid. That way I am not dealing with it too long on the days that I am in a rush to get to work and my mask is still clean. Also, I think that it is made tougher than it looks. I found that my nasal pillows gave out in about 5 months and all the pulling that I did to get the Swift Nasal Pillow back on never caused a tear.

Best regards,

Jersey Girl

Definitely a pain to get back on sometimes for me. However, the benefits I get from it FAR outway that annoyance.

I have never had any rips in the pillows, nor any weakening of the metal ring.
