Filter Problems
Filter Problems
I have a Respironics System One with Cflex machine. Recently I have noticed when I wake up that the filters are not in their holder. I use both the white fine filter and the foam filter together. At first I thought they fine filter might be too snug so I trimmed a bit off. That seemed to work for a day or two but, again I found the filters out of the holder. I'm beginning to think there is some back pressure blowing the filters out. Has anyone else experienced this? If so what was the solution.
Re: Filter Problems
I'm wondering if the little black box/cover that fits over the holders isn't clicked into position correctly. First put in your foam filter. Place the white filter ontop of that. If I remember right, it has a little edge on one of the longer sides that slips down, maybe meant to hold it more securely? On top of that goes the little black box cover that will kind of "click" if its on securely. Hope this helps! Terry

Ah Ha - I don't have a cover. I'm guessing I probably did and perhaps it came off and I never noticed. Let me start looking. Thanks Terry. Larry
Re: Filter Problems
The original poster and the replier have different machine.
The information given for the Resmed machine does NOT apply the PR System One machine. There is no cover on the PR Sytem One machine. It is tricky to keep the filters in. I check every night before I get into bed because they seem to come out with just dusting off the machine.
By the way, on the System One, the white filter goes in first and then the black one. I don't know about the Resmed machine.
When Respironics (Philips Respironics) had the same probem with their M Series machines, they began making a "whisper cap" that did fit over the filter area but it was a really nuisance to get off and on.

Neither of my Remstars came with a cover. That might be a Resmed thing. On the Remstar, the white filter goes in first, and then the grey. I did not have the white filters on my CPAP, but when I went to trade it in for my BiPAP the respiratory therapist decided to give me a package of the new model that has come out recently. It had an older one already in it, and she said that she hated those. Do your white filters have tabs on them? Those are the ones that she said she can never get to stay in. They'd pop out and push out the grey filters along with them.
Re: Filter Problems
Perhaps my machine did not come with one. Yes my white filters have a tab and yes that seemed to push both filters out. I trimmed a little off the top and that seemed to work for one of them and then they popped out again so I began to thing some back pressure was blowing them out. I may try cutting the tab off one and see how that works. Thanks. Larry
Re: Filter Problems
My RT just called and said they have some new filters without the tab that will fix the problem. So I will pick some up tomorrow. I also cut the tab off the one I have in there now so I imagine everything will be fine. Thanks everyone for the feedback. Larry
Re: Filter Problems
You might be wrong on the Remstar Classic the white goes in first fuzz out, then the foam, then the cover snaps in. You shouldn't be cutting the filters, if they are correct they are correct. Re: Filter Problems
Are you putting the tab on the white filter on the top or bottom? I've found that if it's on the top the filters come out, if you fold the tab and put it on the bottom they don't.
Re: Filter Problems
I tried it both ways - no difference. It seems that you can't make a hard crease on the tab. Apparently the tabs cause problems. I post my results after I pick up some tab-less filters tomorrow. I also found a company that makes a filter cover/noise dampener that is supposed to fit my machine. I ordered one. If it doesn't work, it's only $10. My guess is that it friction fits into the filter compartment.
Re: Filter Problems
I picked up tabless filters from my therapist. I also cut the tab off my existing filters which makes them the same size as the tabless ones. So far everything is holding tight. So tabless seems to be the way to go if you are experiencing similar problems.
Re: Filter Problems
Same problem here, but removing the tab prevented further "pop outs."
Also, if you get your filters through cpap.com, you may have to trim a little off the sides. Their filters do not seem to be as uniform as Respironics.

Re: Filter Problems
Make sure you have the newest Respironics PR System 1 filters OEM # 1063096- they replace the faulty tabbed filters.
The newer filters are thinner, fit better, have less pressure drop and reduce noise levels.
Can get them at CPAP filters and supplies com

Re: Filter Problems
I have NEVER had a filter "pop out" of my M-series. I fold the tab and crease it firmly. I stick the white filter in, then press the black one in on top of it. The tab is convenient to pull the white one out.
