Thank you all!!! First night success!

Post by Cossette » Mon Oct 04, 2010 4:12 pm

I was so down and feeling so sorry for myself and my situation - having been recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. I want to thank Moonbear for her heartfelt and vulnerable posting "so depressed" that acted as a catalyst for so many compassionate responses from all of you.

I read them all. How each of you encouraged her to "keep going" and the stories of how "hanging in there" and finally getting a good nights sleep after many years of deprivation (as in my case) changed your lives - that I was finally able to sleep the night with my mask on. Previous to that I had such a loud voice in my head insisting that it would NOT work for me - however - after reading about your successes - I had a huge change in attitude and was determined to add my name to the list of successors. I did cheat a little in that I took 5mg of ambient - right at bedtime to help reduce my anxiety (I kept feeling as though I was going to drown or suffocate) and to help me fall to sleep.

It is only one night - however - I am looking forward to going to bed tonight - and I am feeling hopeful that I will continue to feel confident eventually see the mask as my friend. Thank you all again!

I'm so glad you had a better night! Ambien isn't cheating. I probably would have acclimated much faster if I used something like that when I was new to cpap.

well this is so nice to hear, and how wonderful that you were so inspired by another person's challanges..

We just never know who might be reading, and this is fabulous to hear you have had a bit of luck too..

Yes, we are pretty much in the same boat, and I know, I could have never lasted this long without the help of all the folks here who have
already been through it..

hang in there, you just might be feeling better than you could have ever imagined sooner than later!

That is the experience of the majority of the members here...

Welcome Cossette, glad to hear you're on your way! Our Dr prescribed Ambien for my husband for about 3 months until things smoothed out. He didn't take it every night but it was good to have it when he needed it. Now that you're one of us, why don't you fill out your profile in the Control Panel so we can answer questions and give better suggestions.

I used Ambien to aclimate - I didn't consider it cheating. When the first few nights were so rough I knew I needed help! - Kim
