I had success last night!

Post by Quilter2 » Sun Oct 03, 2010 12:11 pm

For the first time, in 15 nights, used equipment all night long. Minimal fiddling to put mask and its' attachments, back on, at my 2 wake ups.
Woke first time w/ major leak-lower teeth outside the mask and gasket. Huge dry mouth and noise is what woke me, I think.
Woke second time w/ huge dry mouth, teeth not outside mask.

Leak 9L, AHI-15.6, AI-0.6, Average Pressure-7.8, VT-130-1195, Respiration Rate 9-15, MV-2-12, 7.32 hr, ****mask fit...all are personal best progress. Is AHI an all night cumulative count?

I need more humidity, much more...was set at 3 and 5.Window open at my head. 55 degrees outside , hose cover. Don't feel great ,actually quite tired. NO morning headache and nose congestion. Headgear wasn't pulling at my neck all night long. Used cpap pillow, slept on back.
Used Fit Life Total Face mask combined with F+P Forma headgear.
Foam tube toe covers -turned inside out- on cheek straps. (There is a knit type lining in these )
Added nylon tube sock around forehead lattitude. Another sock aound chin lattitude. Padded back neck w/ fleece. Added velcro arrangement for forehead tabs .
A deep, soulful thanks to all on this forum, who mentioned Macs earplugs on gasket for leaks. A lifesaver. Used at center forehead. And at each end of smile lattitude.

Thanks to each of you who responded to my previous posts asking for help.

Congrats on your best night so far!!

You might want to try a chinstrap to keep that mouth closed. As you become more accustomed to the mask and machine your mouth may stay closed on it's own, mine never did.

Wow that's great news

Brings a tear to my eye remembering how it took me 6 months (yes 6 MONTHS) to be able to wake up in the morning without having pulled my mask off subconsciously during the night. Mind you there were just the clunky face masks that covered your nose and rested on your forehead - none of the new fangled nasal pillows

I don't think I will ever be able to use chin straps because of my head, mouth and mandible profile. I was a dental hygienist for 12 years. Not one patient reported to me they learned to keep their mouth shut. Or taught themselves to quit grinding and clenching. I am hoping when I get my next hight guard, my dear dentist and I, can come up w/ some tounge control without getting the TMJ all messed up. Or a maxillary night guard that might encourage a slight clench to keep mouth closed. Or a combo situation. Have read w/ great interest about guards used on this forum. Knowing what I know will narrow what I think may work. She is an excellent dentist and there is always new data.
