Hanging up the Hose

Post by dkeat » Wed Nov 09, 2005 8:28 am

I know I have seen this discussed here previously, but couldn't find anything under FAQs so here I am.

There is some very American sort of gismo that many of you use to hang the hose on the wall. I think it may be something for the hair? I just remember that it was mentioned as a solution and since I didn't know what it even was, I ignored it. And now I would like to hang my hose in the most optimal way possible.

It would be great if someone could name AND describe the NORMAL function of this object so that I could look for it here in Switzerland. Also the best way to mount it to the wall so that the hose hangs down above you.

Many thanks up front.

It is called a Scrunchie here. Basically it is a cloth covered rubber band that is used to gather hair together to make pony or pig tails. It got its name becuase the cloth is usually loose and looks wrrinkled or all scrunched up before you use it. Think of it as a small circular bungee cord.

Something that I've found to work remarkably well is a retractable key reel. It's the kind of key ring that you see janitors and supers wear. I've got the reel end attached to my headboard and the key end attached to my hose with a velcro strap.

It keeps the hose tamed and easily lets out more when you move. I don't notice the hose at all anymore.

Google "retractable key reel" and you'll see tons of them. Wouldn't be surprised if your local hardware store sells them as well.

Ain't dyslexia wunnerful? Three times I read that as "...the key end attached to my NOSE with a velcro strap."

I thought, 'Man, this is a person who will do ANYTHING for a good nights sleep!

Scrunchies and Stuff

Post by dkeat » Thu Nov 10, 2005 12:59 pm

Hey thanks guys. I went to Google and searched for images of scrunchies. My kids have them and they have already donated one that is no longer in service. A nice red one. I nailed it into the wall above my bed as I don't really have a headboard. Would that be the correct thing to do? Or am I supposed to hang a hook there and hand the scrunchie from the hook. Would just worry that it might slip off while tossing and turning at night.

The other suggestions were interesting, but couldn't see how to implement without a headboard, but really appreciated them in any case.

Howdy,

This is a little more reliable than a scruchie and a little more elegant than a hole in the wall, but does cost more as well.

Hi, yes, I had already visited cpap.com to see what they had to offer and saw this system there. I believe it needs to be placed under the mattress and that is why I didn't take it into consideation. I have a European type bed that can be raised up at the head and feet. Didn't think it would work well with those parameters.

I've used a scrunchie and a thumbtack for several years now. Cheap (I stole one from my daughter) and works great!

Inspiration

Post by dkeat » Sun Nov 13, 2005 2:37 am

I took some inspiration from one of the threads on the subject and got my hands on a retractable key chain. It is a wonderful thing. I feel like an engineer. I mounted the round part directly into the wall with a screw and attached the hose to the other end with a ring I found on an old key chain. It works wonderfully and fully retracts when not in use. This would receive the Good Housekeeping seal of approval.

Nails pull out. Use a stud finder and then a big screw.

Umm ... no sexual innuendo intended. Maybe Freudian slips though.
