Too much humidity?

Post by kurtr » Tue Nov 08, 2005 11:18 am

I frequently wake up feeling like I cannot get enough air. I have my humidifier set on the lowest setting and do not have rainout anymore (use hose cover). When I turn off the humidifier, I am able to get back to sleep and do fine the rest of the night. This happens about half the nights. I live in coastal So CA so relative humidity is fairly high already but I have not read in the posts of this ( basically suffocating on too much humidity, especially on the lowest setting).
Any ideas are welcome
Thanks,
Kurt

I have seen several posts on this board and others about this, but usually the people that seem to have problems with their humidity specify that they have asthma.

Personally, I can not stand to have warm air blown into my face. I am suprised that I am able to tolerate a humidifier. Though, I don't tuck the hose under the covers with me, in an attempt to not warm the air further. For me, it's not the humidity in the air, it's the temperature of the air.

Kurt,

If you can sleep better with the humidfier heater "off", then I would suggest that you leave it off.
When I first got my machine, I tried it (I think) ONCE with the heater on....and found that was NOT for me....and have left it off ever since and enjoy the cool (humidfied) air. Works for me!

Best wishes,

I love the the humidifier I have with my ResMed Auto Spirit APAP. I have the Humidaire 2i. You can adjust how much humidity you want at a given time. Some times I need more and at others I don't.

My husband's Respironics with C-Flex doesn't have that control option.

If you have the adjustable feature try turning the humidifire down.

This should help.

kurtr,

What machine (not humidifier) are you using?

Kurt,

If you sleep and feel better without the humidifier, leave it off. I tried my machine last week for the first time without the heated humidifier and I am sleeping SO MUCH BETTER!

I had it turned down to 1 and even that was, apparently, too much for me. I have never liked warm air blowing in my face. I like to be COOL when I sleep. I had been waking up during the night on and off with the hh. Without it, I'm sleeping straight through.
