I was just curious what is the longest someone has been on one in our community here.
Also wonder how many are as young as me at 36 ..... Just curious

Anyone who would like to reply thanks

I'm 37 and I have been on CPAP for 3 years and change. I just switched to APAP and am hoping my insurance will allow me to remain on it. I tried a mandibular adjustment device for a few months this year but it didn't work for me. I have had OSA symptoms for all of my life.

I am brand spanking new to vpap. I only started my machine about 3 or 4 months ago. Still not used to it but giving it the good ole' college try. As far as my age I just turned 41 this past August. I am also pretty new to this forum and I really like it as it is very helpful.

I was 30 when I got on cpap, been using it for 3 years. Wish I had started earlier!! A couple of people here have been on cpap 10+ years if I remember correctly. Others started years ago, then stopped, then started again. Speak up people

15+ years now, April of 1995 was when I was diagnosed. When I was in the hospital for the birth of my son, since there were complications with his birth they transfered us to IU(teaching hospital) where they already had a sleep center hastily constructed out of 4 rooms in the hospitals basement. It was all VERY new then.

And amazingly fast. I had my sleep test the very same night the doctor said I needed one, Same day my son was born via c-section, and my machine the next day. The only bad part was it was a 2 1/2 hour drive to go back to the sleep doctor since he was the only one in a 300 mile distance.

I have to admit i MISS the old NON-silicone masks I had back then. I figured out using moleskin on the mask made it seal blissfully well and I didn't have to wash my face 3-4 times a night. lol. But those didn't need replaced every 3-6 months either.

Really good to hear from CPAP vets. Somewhere in the back of my mind I've been wondering if there are any long term side effects from CPAP. Not that they would be terribly important given the long term consequences of untreated apnea but . . . cuuldn't help but wonder.

I'm 35 and have been on cpap/apap going on two years now in Nov. The doctor said that he was pretty sure I've had it all my life because of my throat and airway structure. Also with me putting on a little weight the last few years just made it worse. My mom has OSA, my aunt, and quite a few of my cousins all have OSA (all on my mom's side). So, it can definately be genetic.

I have been on it for around 9 years my current machine has 18,245 Hours on it and still going strong . Because of some other issues I am now losing weight (on purpose) 30 lbs so far so I just retested and am going to get my first auto machine because I don't want to keep messing with the pressure as the weigh goes down. I started at 14 and am now at 11.

I have been lucky from day one I have not had any issues with cpap I put the mask on no ramp 10 t0 15 minutes later Im asleep and don't wake up til morning.

I do not believe I would be alive today if not for cpap . I first tested with 95 events per hour low spo2 was 65. I was a mess.

age 59
