Omigosh, that full faced mask rocked last night!

Post by CindySue in Indiana » Sat Sep 25, 2010 1:09 pm

Ok, I must be wierd. I have been on the nose pilow for a week now and hated it. It irritates me under my nose...it moves around too much during the night and I find myself fidgeting with it all night long, so I didn't sleep well. So, I asked for a full face mask and she brought me one yesterday and I slept with it last night. Omigosh, I slept so much better. I woke up a few times, but ever so briefly. I just be one of those people who can't stand something around and under my nose, touching it! I actually did GOOD with the full face mask and got up at 7 AM (garage saler...LOL) and have been going strong all day cleaning the garage (no easy task). I hope I don't bomb later like I did with the pillow mask. This just might be the mask for me!!!! Am I the only one who likes the full face mask versus the nose pillows?

Good luck to you too!
I know so many people like the nose pillows and that's the only thing the lady gave me in the beginning, so I was so determined to use it.
But, the full face worked great last night! I guess I'm just so excited to have energy today that I want to shout it from the rooftop!
I know so many of you can relate to that better than my family can!
I've gotten sooooo much done today!

Nothing wrong with liking full face masks. They're the best of all worlds......you don't have to tape your mouth or use a chinstrap. If you do have a leak, you'll know it wasn't out of your mouth.

I'm one who could never imagine trying to sleep with something stuck in my nostrils.

I am a pillow smoosher. I smoosh my face into the pillow. Always have.
I have gone from nasal pillows to the Mirage Activa (much better) to the Mirage Quattro (outstanding) with progressively less leak and more comfort (mind you... if I didn't have allergies and nose stuffiness I would love to be using the Activa all the time and in fact use the Activa on the spare machine in the den where our TV is... so if I lay down to watch TV on the couch and think I might doze off, on goes the CPAP. In the bedroom I have not used anything but the Quattro for months now although I have several other new masks I would like to try out. Once laying down the Quattro is a solid seal and comfy enough. I guess the larger the contact area with one's face, the more stable the seal. Makes sense from an engineering standpoint. I see there are even full face masks that go over the eyeballs but can't really figure that one out... why?

Actually, some people do have to, even with a full face mask.

The idea behind the total face masks is that it avoids having to create a seal over the bridge of the nose. Sores on the nose and leaks into the eyes are totally avoided. The periphery of the face has a much gentler contour against which, for some, it is much easier to achieve a good seal.

I haven't tried one as I'm getting good results with the Swift FX. But If you search you can find posts from folks who have. Respironics makes two total face masks, one is called the FitLife (don't confuse it with the FullLife, or the FastLife, or the FishLife ) and the other carries the generic name of Total Face Mask. I'm pretty sure the FitLife is the one to try first.

Be aware that the FitLife has a very curved forehead section and unless you have a very round head it won't fit. It can't be shaped to fit and it creates a chimney effect with all the air going out the top.
I really wanted to like this mask but it fits few people.

The only name I see on my face mask is "ResMed". Does that tell you what kind it is? It covers my nose and mouth....I'm guessing that's a "full face mask"????
It seals really well for the most part. With the nose pillows I would have to readjust it evey time I rolled over in bed. And I was constantly having to readust it because of leeaking. And it was just way uncomfortable under my nose and on top of my nose. This face mask actually was comfortable enough that I'm even looking forward to it tonight! Is that sick to look forward to it? LOL! I had very little leakage and when I did it was kinda wierd....it came out the bottom around my mouth, sometimes even with a farting noise. I did catch myself with mouth open a few times and it did dry it a bit, but I don't think I left my mouth open for long. I hope I like it again tonight! It's 9:30 PM and I got up at 7 AM and have been going strong all day with NO NAP! I'm excited! I'm getting tired now, but it's a good tired, kwim?

Check out this link. It should give the list of the ResMed full face masks. Then you can see is it's listed there and if so, what the name of it is.
