here's last night's graph

Post by sleepymama » Mon Sep 06, 2010 6:49 am

AHI was 3.7 leak rate was 1.2/20.4/34.8

i'm wondering why the AHI is still high considering the leak. i used tape last night which stayed put plus chinstrap! i thought all the leaking was coming from my mouth. the pillows stayed put cause they were still where they should be this morning. the tubes aren't leaking. anyone have any suggestions?

Sleep mama

your leak isn't all that bad may just be from rolling around or pressure from the pillow something like that. As for the amount of events, it may be time to do a bit of tweeking if you are comfortable with your initial comfort with your unit your did not specify your pressure but you could adjust your pressure a little at a time

sleep well

my pressure is a 9 right now. so it is possible that my pressure needs to be higher based on the low leakage level and high apnea events?

Looks like you're doing OK. You might raise your pressure to 10cms and leave it for a few days and see if that catches some of those events. Keep us posted.

Your leaks were high from 1 to 2 am, but then it got better, and was zero for the rest of the night. Since there were only a few apneas during that time, it didn't seem to be too much of a problem for you.

From 4 to 6 am, there were mostly obstructive (red flags) and a few central apenas (black flags). If you do a search on Central apneas, you can read up about them. It may be that you were having REM sleep during that period, and may need a little more pressure to catch them. Or, you may have been sleeping on your back, and alot of us need more pressure if we are sleeping on our back. Your sleep study will tell you if you are one of those.

AHI of 3.7 is very good for a beginner. 5 is considered effective treatment by the sleep docs. If you are inclined to tweak your therapy, and if you are already feeling comfortable with your current pressure, you could try raising it 1 cm., then leave it for a week, to see how you do. Keep notes of changes you make, and how you respond. Or, do nothing, and watch it for a week. I think it's better to not make too many changes in the beginning, especially if you're already doing well.
