Hi all, ending week 3 on cpap and could use some guidance. The topic is masks... I think.
1st 2 weeks really no issues at all. No problem fitting the masks ( I have tried 3). No problems with comfort or keeping the mask on. No problem at all sleeping through the night 6-7.5 every night... Until week 3. This week i found myself fussing with my mask a lot. Comfort air leaks I even took it off in my sleep twice this week and have never done that before.
Now my living arrangement is a bit strange I spend 4 days in an apartment every week for work and am home for 3. I have an remstar pro (listed) at the apt and the newer series one at home. Because I was not having any problems with masks I had an older resperonics nasal mask one place and a profile lite another. I had used the pro lite most recently at home and just left it at home thinking "np full face, nasal make model no big deal they all work fine" Could it be that all this mask changing is leading to the problems of comfort and leaks?
Since beginning cpap the results are at worst great. No more snoring, my wife no longer wakes me telling me to breath! My mood has improved greatly, the dark circles under my eyes look better every day. My ahi is at 5 or below every night. So all really good stuff so I don't want to mess this up!
Thoughts or advice guys?
Thanks- glenn

I would suspect the older mask could be the issue. All the masks seem to fit differently to your face and that does make a difference. You said older mask, but you also indicate you have only been on CPAP for 3 weeks, so how old are we talkin here?
The masks after time do seal less well as the seal itself begins to deteriorate. That is the main reason we get new masks.
Try washing the mask and tweaking the strap tightness and see if that helps at all. You may decide you need the same style mask at both places. Most of us get one mask design that works the best for us.
Leaks can also be caused by different pillows under your head. One may push on the mask more than another if you have different kinds of pillows at the two places.
I wish you the best of luck.

Most of us go through this around that time if we took to cpap well. Your first O2 and sleep hunger is over and now your brain starts to be fussy. Try using the same mask in both locations. Try saying to your self as you go to bed "I keep my mask on all night My mask helps me get better". You have to try to communicate with your subconscious which is in charge when you sleep.

Thank you, BlackSpinner. I, for one, needed to hear that today.BlackSpinner wrote:Most of us go through this around that time if we took to cpap well. Your first O2 and sleep hunger is over and now your brain starts to be fussy.
