cpap cause this awful cold
cpap cause this awful cold
i have now been on cpap for 2 weeks. seems like my sinuses heve always been stopped up but since using cpap they have been draining more than ever. the problem is now i have a low grade fever and nose is running all the time. is this just a coincidence or cpap causing it?
Re: cpap cause this awful cold
Try turning your humidifier down (or off) - it's not part of "therapy", just a comfort thing, but often causes congestion and sinus problems, though if yours are draining, it could be incidental rather than because of the machine.
Re: cpap cause this awful cold
If your sinuses have "always" been stopped up (i.e. long before cpap), it may be that they are just finally clearing up, with the added humidification and air actually getting into those areas that were previously plugged. As long as the fever remains low-grade, and you are not too miserable, I would give it some time. Once all the old "gunk" has found its way out, you may be feeling much better. However, if the fever gets high, or you are really miserable, consider seeing your regular doctor to rule out a sinus infection. I have battled sinus infections for years, and sometimes the infection can be harbored deep in the sinus, and appear to lay dormant. This could be the problem--and the clearing of your sinuses, thanks to the cpap, has simply dislodged the infection.
I hope you start feeling better soon, and the cpap is a good experience for you. I'm a newbie, too, and have just completed my first week. It sure is a learning process, at least for me!

Nasal rinses, and some sprays. Play with the humidity to find the sweet spot for you. If the fever doesn't clear up in a week go and see a doctor. Cpap doesn't cause fever or sinus infections but ti does open things up that may have been closed and lain dormant. That is a God Thing.

My experience is the opposite--I usually set my humidifier at 3.
Lower--I make snot all day, higher, I wake up with a wet nose (rainout).
