I can't really help you much except to bump this up.

I use Windows 7 Home Premium but I put on the 32 bit version. Apparently the 64 bit version of Windows 7 (and I can only speak about the Home Premium version) gives problems in loading the software.

Encore 1.8.49 is an older version of the software so that MAY also have something to do with the fact that it does get along well with Windows 7.

Let's see what others say.

Unfortunately if you are not savvy with a computer you will need someone who is.

The links talk about Vista but I can't tell the difference between the two. I did it and never bothered with that virtual machine thingy.

My understanding and I have not had to go there yet, hanging on to XP as long as I can! If you are running Windows 7 in 32 bit mode it should install somewhat normally. If you bought enough memory to kick Windows 7 Home Premium into 64 bit mode your only hope is to go through the process and install XP in virtual mode or maybe change to Windows 7 Ultimate which has a 32 bit switch. There have been a lot of discussions on this so you might have to search to find the instructions. I am still dreading the day my 'puter quits and i have to face this. Encore Pro is very important to me. Whis I could help more but I have not HAD to do this yet.

Both Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate (or Enterprise if you have a copy of Windows from work) support XP mode. You have to download the software for XP mode and Virtual PC from MicroSoft (they download together and are free.)

Unfortunately, Windows 7 Home Premium does not support XP mode, so that leaves most home users without.

I know a couple of frends that have faced this and their solution was to go to e-bay and buy an old laptop running XP and used it for nothing but running Encore Pro. Windows 7 has been out long enough ther are some fairly cheap XP laptops for sale. Since the new PR1 machines can no longer use Encore Pro there seems to be little interest in trying to fix EP 1.8i any longer.

I called Repsironics last week and the person was able to install the software for me using a remote access system. Try this number and as to speak with somone who can help you with installation problems with Encore viewer 1800-345-6443. I thought the person who helped me was great.

It has been a while since i played with windows, but if you right click on the program after you install it i think there is an option to run it in compatibility mode. Just tell it which version of windows the software does work on and it should work. My solution to problems with windows was to buy a mac... but that wont help you run it either

In Windows 7, you can set the compatibility mode (for programs that run in earlier versions of Windows) by right-clicking the program, clicking properties in the context menu, and using the run this program in compatibility mode check box and the drop down box to select the version of Windows. This is not guaranteed to work however, and is a totally different animal from Windows XP mode. Compatibility mode is available in all versions of Windows 7.

XP mode uses virualization software (Virtual PC) to actually run Windows XP in the background, and runs the subject program so that it "thinks" it is running in XP. XP mode should work with almost any XP program that will not run under Windows 7 alone. In addition, XP mode totally hides the virualization, so that clicking on the program's icon starts the program (in XP mode) just like any other Windows 7 program, with no other steps involved. The look and feel of an XP mode program is that of XP Windows 7.

I followed the instructions linked above and never installed anything virtual. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate and it works just fine.

Good Luck

Are you running 32-bit or 64-bit Ultimate?

If you're asking me it's Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit but I think it matters more what the OP is using. Mine is working just fine.

I think the biggest problem with 64 bit is making sure you are using a 64 bit driver. If there is no driver avail for what you are trying to install it won't work.

ps. & fwiw - I just checked the Compatibility tab for Encore 1.8.49 and nothing is checked
