Log on problem

Post by Guest » Wed Nov 02, 2005 10:03 pm

Suddenly tonight the forum forgot who I was even after I entered my username and password manually (which is always automatic). I requested a new password and it too fails. I tried to set a new user name and it said my e-mail address is already registered so it has some record of me.
Any ideas????

Some more on the above post.
By the way it's "sleepyinsunnyvale" trying to log on.

If I try to log on with the correct username and password it just keeps returning me to the screen to enter the username and password again. If I purposely enter a bad password it tells me that the user name and/or password is bad.

from one "guest" to another (Ric here), I sent a message to Craig (the sysadmin) to the same effect, dawgone logon problems. (no reflection on Craig, he didn't write this bloomin software, and I truly appreciate that we even HAVE a sysadmin!)

Of the 6 computers that I use regularly, 5 at home and one at my office, only the WinME box (at home), and the cowardly Win2000 box at my office even let me LOG IN. All the others are XPs. and even with the firewall down, cookies allowed, virus scanning software OFF (not! recommended), privacy and security at the lowest possible settings, all the Java and custom settings at the most lenient possible, and Jave JRE is up to date... NADA!

Well, one exception, sometimes I can log in, and see my name on the active users list, BUT.... as soon as I click on "read messages", it loses my identity, even though on top it says "log off, ric". Which tells me that parts of the software remember who I am, but never the part that represents "where I'm at".

Also, I'm curious if ANYBODY has had the experience of having the system remember who they were between sessions, and log them in automatically as the "log me in automatically" button might suggest???? clearly that would require cookies to be enabled. On none of my 'puters have I experienced that experience. Actually I can set my "autofill" software to fill in the blanks, and that works. But that is "cheating", (and I feel sooooo ashamed for doing that). But even that is of no use when the system won't actually log me on at all anyway, even WITH the correct form fill response.

Chances are, it's probably some simple and obvious setting that I forgot to set, or unset, or type left-handed. Or whatever. I haven't figured it out just yet. I share your frustration. HELP!!! I will presume that some on this list has met that dragon, and slain it. It wasn't me.

I hold out the possiblity that this blogware, as useful as it is, may not be the most up-to-date. Most of the blogs that I blog have no problem with XP or my particular settings on any of the various boxes.

Maybe if we enable "cookies" AND send along a few to the sysadmin, say chocolate chip....

(just a thought)

I think they're having a technical problem - I was no logged on either - even though I'm on automatice logon.

However logging back in - a bit later - worked.

sleepyinsunnyvale here again.

In the 9 months I've been on this forum I've successfully logged in automatically everytime.
I also just created a new username, PW and e-mail address and am having the same issue with it. I think you are correct, they must be having server problems.
I also note that there is only one person listed as on line at a time tonight.

I had trouble logging in yesterday and this morning I noticed I had to log in again.

Very Strange.

Sleepyinsunnyvale checking in ....

Problem still exits this morning. Can't log in on my old or new user name.
No error message just keeps returning me to log in screen each time I enter my user/password.
Don't believe it's on my end since all other sites that require my log in (most set for auto log in) work just fine.

Just wondering how many folks are having log-in problems. It's been 24 hours and I can't get in under either user account I've set up. The Forum Admin sent me an e-mail saying they made some SW changes yesterday and are working on this issue.
Any other "Guests" out there who are having same log-in problems?

still cant log on. well, ok, I can, but not really. when I log in, I can see my name on the active list, but it is still asking me to log in again. when I click on (CLICK HERE TO READ POSTS), it takes me to the posts, drops my name from the active list, and asks me to log in again. Something seems not quite right about this.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR !!!

I finally got logged back on after trying to log in about 5 times this morning.

I sure hope they get the bugs worked out before to long.

This is the first week since I joined this forum I have had this much trouble getting on to post as myself and not as a guest.

Everyone has problems at one time or another.

guest what?

Post by snork2 » Sat Nov 05, 2005 8:15 pm

Well I officially join the ranks of those turned into "guests".
Auto login stopped working for me over the last couple of days on a couple of different machines, and now I can't get my login to let me in at all.

I guess I will just be a guest. I am not being secretive or snooty, just sorta pushed in that direction. Hopefully our kind hosts will get it all straightened out eventually.

I just got signed in again this evening.

I am really surprised about this.

Severeena,
Thanks for the update. You're lucky you can get on at all. I've been trying since last Thursday. The Forum Admin says they're "working on it" but I haven't had a response to my e-mails to them since Thurs.

Sleepyinsunnyvale, I am not susre if I am lucky or not. I have had to log on every time I have come to the forum this morning if I wanted to reply.

Very strange indeed.
