What is "rested and refreshed" anyway?

Post by Tired Linda » Thu Aug 26, 2010 9:35 am

Could someone please explain this to me? I keep seeing this all over the board, but seriously have no idea what it means. (I'm not just being a smarta$$, either)

As far back as I can remember (kid at home with parents) I've never had an easy time getting up in the morning. Always been foggy, grumpy and wanted to be left ALONE until everything cleared. Maybe my apnea goes back that far, I don't know. My mother always said "Linda's not a morning person" but, then again, I've had years of therapy and medication dealing with my mother, childhood issues and depression, so everything is kind of skewed.

I really have no good frame of reference, since my husband is totally opposite. Bright-eyed and bushytailed, as they say, and some days he drives me nuts with his cheerfulness and incessant talking. Oh, and he tells everyone he's sleeping better now...ain't that grand? Don't get me wrong, he's a good guy, but I thought this was my show here

The reason I ask is because I was up this morning, 45 minutes before the alarm clock. Showered, dressed, breakfast eaten, computer on and data from last night checked. (Third night on new mask and numbers are waaaay down.) I was awake and felt like getting out of bed.

Is that what "rested and refreshed" means? Am I supposed to "feel" something? Or what?

Well, if it is any help, I got tired just reading all you did first thing this morning! I would say you definitely had energy, but I think a refreshed and restful 'feeling' is something that comes in time. After all, the sleep debt didn't happen overnight, so it may take a while. I don't recall many days in my life feeling refreshed upon waking, either. I am soooooo looking forward to the day when I awaken with some new found lease on life.....as I am sure that is what it must feel like. I'd love for it to be tomorrow morning, but I tend to think its going to be a while.

It is subtle.
It means what other people typically experience in the morning. To us it is special. It means mornings are no longer hated. It means every morning doesn't feel like Monday with a hangover!

Ironically, I used to wake up earlier and more easily when I had untreated severe OSA. My adrenalin was pumping throughout the night as my body strugged to breathe, so waking up was no problem! I just felt tired and hung over all day. The difference after 1 night of CPAP (my lsleep study night) was DRAMATIC. One month into my treatment, I feel much better, but I do not always wake up with my alarm. My body likes uninterrupted sleep and wants more!

I like you always felt like a truck ran over me every morning..

however ONE time it happened..

I got up ONE morning, and I knew what "refreshed "meant...

I felt ike a cool breeze was flowing all around the inside of my body.. I didnt hurt all over, I can breath in and out and FEEL my breath..
it was easy and flowing.. but the coolness inside, that was it..

It was like an air freshener commercial.. butterflies, breezes, sunshine, the smell of fresh cut grass....

Like having a beer on a really hot day? that "ahhhhhhhhhhhhh" thats what its like..

Like swimming in a pool JUST the right temperature on a hot day...... how your insides fell all rested, relaxed and cool...

Oh and cake, if feels like eating a piece of your favorite cake! mmmmmmmmmmm

I have never felt that, EVER.. and only one time it happened, so I know what it is!

(which by the way, really pisses me off, cuz it only happened ONE time!)
