Greetings all.
I would like to start out by saying I don't have a problem .......but I have this friend that does.!!! LOL
ok now that I have that out of the way, I got a message the other day from Johnny whom is the forum adim. and sugested that I get on board and start posting. So where to start....How about those CHIEFS???
Hello Johnny and thanks for the welcome
I'm 52 years old, bald short and overweight. I really not much to say except that I will give you a brief summary of myself . My day begins at midnight. I work 12 - 8am dispatching for fire - ems - law enforcement and answering 9-1-1 calls for our county that is 660 square miles and has 6 towns. After work at 8 am I chore, we have cattle and then it's off to bed. At 3 pm I'm up and back at it as I also own and operate gun shop and do gunsmithing till 8 pm. Then a little down time with the family before going to work at midnight I do the midnight work 4 nights and off 2 rotation,
on the 21st of July I went for my sleep study....I guess I failed as I'm to return tonight (Thursday) for a titration study. I have been sand bagging here so I have some sort of idea of what I'm getting into tonight. All the tech would tell me a my first study was that he thought a cpap would be very helpful. Now you now all that I know about it so far. When I see my Doc I will ask for a copy of the report so that I can clue you all in and then hopefully some of you can help me figure what it means.
I have one thing going for me I think, There is a DME provider whom is a very good friend of mine. I have spoke with her and she is already talking about what she can and will do for me.
I spose I better close for now as there might be some hidden charges for long posts .
I will be back to post what goes on tonight is any is interested.
Thanks for putting up with my whining and belly aching.
My God's peace be with you all
Paul

You certainly did not fail. Rather, you are the big winner here. OSA can cause a multitude of really serious health problems, including heart damage, brain damage, and causing weight gain over time. Getting diagnosed and treated is a huge win for both you and your family.
A titration study should be somewhat interesting for someone like yourself who is interested in mechanical things and in communication technology. What they do is wire you up like a lab rat, then they want you to sleep. When you are sleeping, they adjust the machine across a variety of settings to see which settings are sufficient to treat your OSA.
There is an odd factor with CPAP. The severity of OSA and the amount of CPAP you need are not correlated with each other. For example, a person with very mild OSA can require a very aggressive treatment, while another person with really bad OSA might need only a minimal level of treatment. The key is for the sleep lab technicians to find that magic pressure level that hold your airway open to allow you to breathe. In most cases, once that pressure level is found, you can breathe normally and get really good sleep.
Please do get copies of your study. If you are not bashful, scan them and post them.

Re: NEWBIE
Hello all
Good News!!!! Just finished my titration study and feel better than I have on years!!!!! The tech told me That he started my pressure at 5 and I finished the night at 8. I actually feel like being someone and doing something. I don't have that groggy feeling.
I was shown several different masks and he started me out on a ResMed Mirage Activa mask. Only because I do a lot of tossing and turning. When he turned the lights out ... the next thing I remember is him waking me up saying I'm done.
The only problem I experienced was the headgear was a medium and I have a big head. In order to get the mask strapped on they had to pull it tight to my face.
gotta go for now. More later
