Got my new Swift FX today

Post by base2balls » Tue Aug 17, 2010 11:33 am

Well I'm a happy old bag as I went to Lincare this a.m. and got fitted for my new Swift FX and he hooked me up to thier machine and it sure does feel great! It felt like I didn't have mask on at all so tonight I'm looking forward to using it. I did ask a lot of questions on how long the pillows last and the like and he showed me how to put it on and take it off and how to dismantle it for cleaning and all that. He also told me people like this mask so well that they are having a dilly of a time keeping it in stock. Well tonight will be my first night using the pillows. It even has the little padded things sort of like padacheeks. Have a great day., Huggies, Fay

Did you compare the FX to the LT ? Many have enjoyed the LT more than the FX.

My husband and I both have the Swift FX and we love them. It's very light and as comfortable as a mask on your face can be. At the beginning, I was freaked about the idea of things stopping up my nose, but after three nights with a nasal mask (which I absolutely hated), I decided to ignore my fears and switched to the FX. I started sleeping relatively comfortably almost right away (it does take a little getting used to, but it didn't take long). Now we're three months in, and I do notice that the pillows are getting soft and it's a little harder to keep the fit. So I just ordered new nasal pillows for each of us, since I read on here that they do tend to degrade over time.

I wish you luck on your first night with the FX; I think you'll love it. I'd love to hear how it goes!

I was reading one of the manuals for the FX, (I think the clinical guide), and Resmed indicates that the Fx is not recommended for use with Auto machines; and the auto-on function. Has anyone had any experience to the contrary/confirmation? Thanks.

Well, I guess I missed that part, so.... I am using the Fx.

The auto on seems to work perfectly. It comes on after the second or third breath every time.

I was already using the FX when I was using the PR1 as a straight CPAP and kept on using it when I switched to Auto (on 8/11). I have been downloading the data on a daily basis since I switched and as far as I can tell, it is not causing any problems.

Do they say why it is not reccomended?

To clarify, the FX is compatible with auto machines; here's ResMeds compatibility chart (the FX is on page 2):

http://www.resmed.com/us/assets/documen ... er_eng.pdf

The FX (and many other masks) are not recommended for use with the ResMed AutoSet CS™ 2 and VPAP™ Adapt SV devices, both of which are very specialized devices. ResMed does note that the SmartStop function may not be effective with the FX (and some members have reported this with the smaller sized pillows), but one can always manually stop the machine. See the notes at the bottom of the second page one (the one after page 6???)):

It must be a legal CYA catch, as I have been using mine with my APAP for close to 3 months and no ill effects. I had an LT, which I liked but their piss poor pillows soured me on it, however I found the FX is 10X better than the LT, plus the pillows hold up very good.

No I didn't get the chance to compare the two, but I did lie down for a spell and put it on and turned on the machine and it felt great, almost like not having a mask on and I think the small pillows will be fine. Sooooo so far I like it and let us see how it goes tonight. Sheese I'm so tired out. I just changed my sheets, turned the mattreesss and put a new bedskirt on my bed and the lone star quilt I made on my bed and it sure looks so comfortable now. I'm so tuckered out I should sleep great tonight. I hope so. Have a great day, Huggies, FAy

Hi B2B---
I do like the simple headgear of the FX--it is practically not there. What I don't like is how you have to practically rip the whole mask apart to clean the nasal pillows. I would not like to have to do that every day and it seems like that weakens the pillows as they are more delicate that the LT. The LT for her you can just take off the nasal pillows and wash them, they pop right back on--no problem. They seem sturdier and I like the fact that you can adjust the angle of the pillows on the Swift LT.

I hope you enjoyed your night with the FX--let us know how it went.
Carrie

My first night wiht the Swift FX was wonderful. I couldn' t get over how well the pillows stayed in place even after moving a little bit. I slept relly well last night and I feel great today. I had to turn on the light a time or two to make sure I didn't put it on upside down after getting up to use the facilities and such and I kept looking for the buckle that undose the other mask but no buckle there so it iwll take a few days to get used to that. It was like not having a mask on and I was soooo happy wiht it last night. The small pillows are going to be fine. I did try on the mediums and those were too large so I know those won't work well for me. So far I love it. Every one have a great day, Huggies, Fay

Hi Fay
Instead of taking your mask off when you get up to piddle, why don't you just unhook the hose. That's what I do with my LT and my quattro, are you not able to do that with the FX. OOPPS I forgot you may have a hubby in the same bed and he would not like the whooshing sound of the bare hose sitting on your pillow I don't have one (widow) so I don't care how much sound it makes when I unhook.
Glad you like your FX....I just love my LT.
Cheers
Norma

hi there!
so glad you love your swift fx!

I just got one too! I truly loved my opus 360 and f and p pillows, but I adore the fx!

I wore a medium with the fischer and pakal pillows, but a small with the swift.. I told that nose pillow fittings run like "shoes"

Anyway, my leaks went down with these, as they are much softer, and I can squeesh them into my bed pillows without the leaks going over
the redline.. or off the charts..

I have not tried the LT yet, is it true those nose pillows do not hold up? I remember reading about quite a few disappointed cpappers complaining
about "new pillows" wearing out extremely quickly, wonder if that the one..

enjoy your fx! I am! Now I get to try it on an auto bipap tomorrow night!

I hate turning the light on. I presume like me you have no problem putting the mask on and off without having to undo anything. In the dark, the top of the pillows has the Resmed brand on it wich you can easily feel if you run your finger over it.

I can do it all now with out having ot turn the light on, but that's no problem. I just plug my zune into one ear and turn up the music and I fall asleep by the tie the 2nd or 3rd some comes on. HeeHee, Yeppers I love it so far, but I am going to have to get or make some kind of a hose manager. The fishing rod idea didn't work well for me as I used a regular fishing rod, but my fly rods are packed waaaay in the back of the closet and I can't reach them with out having to take every thign out. What a chore so I tihnk I'm goingo to order the hose boss thing and that'll be great for travel also. I'm going to see if I can rig some thing out of a bungy cord or some thing of the like. There was water in the pillows this a.m. but didn't get any in my snozola. Every one have a great evening, Huggies, Fay.................P.S. hubby passed in 1975 so no problem there.

i find that my nostrils get sore after 4 or 5 days with my swift fx, so i rotate back and forth between it and the activa lt. i wish i could somehow avoid this issue as i love the comfort of the smaller fx vs the the activa.
