Health Mgmt Services??? Update...

Post by needsomezees » Mon Aug 16, 2010 11:56 am

Based on a lot of what I've read I called my doc for a copy of my rx. Turns out he ordered just a CPAP. I requested he change it to APAP which he readily agreed to do. He's awesome. Still waiting to hear from the DME. Anyone heard of this outfit? Health Mgmt Services? Just wondering what I might me up against. Thanks!!!

Well, wish I could report grand success. Rather than go into every detail, here is a "highlight" version of events:

1. Went in to buy PR Sys 1 APAP, left with a loaner (still paying my portion for the PR). Walked into the room and saw an older "M" series - great machine, just not what I was coming in for. Tech said my insurance wanted me to rent prior to purchase approval... I informed her my ins co had alreay approved purchase, and asked if they had any PR's in the office, because that what was I was there to buy. She informed me they had tons on the shelf in back, but I still had to take loaner. After she asked for my credit card for my portion of the PR purchase, I just had to ask why, if my insurance company wanted me to rent, they wanted me to pay for PR... she didn't know. I told her I wasn't leaving with the "M" series - that wasn't the deal. She talked to a Manager who agreed, but for some reason they needed to order my PR as they were out... (even though I was just told they had tons on the shelf). Takes 4 days to get one in. I can wait. This was a Weds.
2. Bad loaner - kept shutting off the power in my bedroom. HMS reply, "we've never seen that before". No offer to help, change loaners, or anything... I don't think they believed me to be quite honest. I came in (my 3rd trip) and they read my card - it very clearly showed a gap in my graphs each night where the power shut down. The tech had me follow her to the storage area for a new cable, then stopped me at the door - I happened to notice 3 PR's on the counter... Didn't say anything... should have. We are now 10 days in... it's a Friday, 3:30 pm.
3. Cable didn't work... called the next Monday morning at 8:30... I think I frustrated them... but by some miracle, my machine is now in... I'm fairly certain the UPS fairy didn't deliver it during non-business hours.
4. This is the most disheartening to me. I have NO clue what anyone's name is in that place. I met 3 techs, not one introduced themselves to me. They spent more time giving me crap about APAP vs CPAP than giving a rip about helping me.

I do have to give a shout-out to Mark. He's the guy from the HMS Corp office that calls to check on my progress, and I KNOW HIS NAME!!! He was helpful with my questions, and was willing to spend as much time with me as I needed. However - when I told him about my issues with the office, he just pretended not to hear me and talked right on through my concerns. My guess is he didn't know how to respond. I'm not going to hold that against him. I have my Encore now, so no need to go back.

I am looking forward to a long and mutually fulfilling relationship! By the way, since you are monitoring... my doc sent the rx Friday (8/13), I talked to my health ins today, so just waiting on you all to give me a call!

Wait until you try to get supplies from them! They will send you two tiny little filters in a $7.00 UPS envelope and then try to bill you for shipping. Then they will send you the replacement cushion the next day in a separate UPS envelope. If you are lucky, it will be the cushion you oredered. If not, they will send another one by UPS on the third day.

I thought I was signing with a local company, but so far, everything has been shipped from Houston. And one time it came in a cpap.com box.

Take a look. "Health Management Services" didn't bother to register.

They're not here to assist their customers.
