Discovered another set of trick buttons on ResMed S8

Post by dsm » Mon Oct 31, 2005 1:52 am

While trying to find the way to select WARMUP (which I can do on both the S7 Elite & the Autoset Spirit) I experimented with pressing various combinations of the panel buttons on an S8 Escape.

Anyone with an S8 may have read the manuals and already know this (I am assuming it is in them somewhere but I never saw it).

THIS ONLY applies to the S8, not the S7 family (Lightweight, Elite, Spirit etc).

But, if you hold the left button & EITHER the top OR bottom of the middle buttons down at the same time for 3 secs (as opposed to the right button & one of the middle buttons) then up comes the REMINDER MENU and it lists 5 things for which a date can be entered. I understand that when the various dates roll around the screen diplays a message & the machine beeps.

These are

SERV (service)
MASK (get a new liner)
CALL (Call your loving & caring DME - say Hi)
FILT (change the filter)
CARD (send the data card to your loving friendly DME or whoever)

Also the same trick applies (as most may already know) to the right button but again it doesn't have to be the bottom middle button it can be the top middle button & bingo up comes a menu for which you no longer need to call your loving caring friendly DME

Again. using *either* the top or bottom button along with either the left or right, only applies to the S8 family.

(I still can't find any WARMUP action on my S8 )

Cheers

Warmup on the S8

Post by jnp323 » Wed Nov 02, 2005 6:50 am

I just received my S8 Vantage EPR with H3i humidifier yesterday and found all the settings using a combination of buttons - holding either of the two center buttons along with the right button puts it into the clinical menu mode. All the useful settings can be scrolled thru there! I could not find a warm-up selection in the clinical mode, but when I attached the H3i and plugged it all in, the warm-up option appears. Select it and it starts the warm-up process. Now I just how to understand what all the result information actually means (leaks, AI, etc.) as I am still new to this.

I have an S8 Escape and the clinician's manual. If there is a warm-up option on this machine it has eluded me (and the manual).

any answers yet?

Post by bookwrm63 » Sat Feb 17, 2007 9:57 am

I am revisiting this older topic because I just got the S8 Elite and have the Warmup option listed on the LED screen. However, I can find no reference to Warmup in the manual or when I access the clinical menu. Has anyone figured out what Warmup is yet?

Thanks!

Mary

I know it's for the humidifier but what exactly is it doing? When I press Start, it comes on anyway. I was just curious.

bookwrm63:

Information on it is found in the manual for the HumidAire 3i, in the CPAP machine manual, if it is available

Warmup does not show on the startup screen until the humidifier is plugged in.

After checking, equipment and manuals, I'm confused. My machine says Elite on it and the manual says Escape. They look the same, so who knows! All I can say is I have a warmup indicator, when humidifies is plugged in, but have found no other reference to it in any of the LCD results or settings screens. The humidifier has it's own settings knob.

S8 humidifier and warming

Post by jnp323 » Sat Feb 17, 2007 10:45 am

It starts the warming process of the water in the humidifier, so when you start the S8, the humidifer water is warmed and ready to keep our sensitive nares and sinuses happy! If you do not start the S8 after about 10 minutes of pressing the warming option, it will turn the warmer off! Hope this helps.

I sort's remember the DME telling me that you could set the duration of time for the warm-up to stay on befroe it shuts itself off if the machine blower is not started.

In other words, you hit the warm button and it will start warming. If you do not activate the machine within a certain time the warmer will shut itself off.

It has been over 6 months though, so I could be remembering this all wrong?

EDIT: Looks like JNP beat me to it.

Thank you all very much! I had a feeling it was supposed to be "warming" the water, but wasn't 100% positive. I will have to make sure to press it from now on..lol!

I find that if I pre-warm my water (and if I have the hose attached to the apap), then I get condensation in the hose. Which stands to reason because there is no air blowing through the hose to prevent condensation.

So, if I pre-warm the water, I have to remember NOT to have my hose attached.

Warm-up

Post by GoofyUT » Sat Feb 17, 2007 6:04 pm

The warm-up function will appear in the "Ramp" (CPAP) or "Settling" (APAP) screen (the stand-by screen) ONLY when the H3i option is enabled in the settings menu AND an H3i is actually plugged in. As others here have mentioned, it pre-heats the water before you actually start your sleep session witht he blower on, so that you get humidified air IMMEDIATELY (another very nice ResMed human factors touch!!!!).

However, it performs another VERY CRITICAL function for those on bleed-in supplemental O2; that is, it also starts the blower at very low speed and volume (wth virtually no sound) that applies a slight positive pressure in the hose which will prevent oxygen from accumulating in the hose, potentially explosively. So, folks with supplemental O2 can turn on warming, and start their oxygen concentrators to allow them to get up to speed delivering pure O2, then go wash up, kiss the dog or wife and then get into bed and hose up WITHOUT the fear that there has been an explosive build-up of oxygen in the hose or flow-generator while you were away. This is unlike a Resprionics or other manufacturer's machine for which it is critical to start the machine BEFORE starting the flow of oxygen in order to avoid the build-up of O2 in the machine with potentially disastrous consequences (another VERY nice ResMed human factors touch!!!!!!)

Hope this helps!

Thank YOU, Chuck, for THAT information as I have just recently started 2L of 02 w/my Resmed S8 Elite and have been a bit leery about it. I've been wanting to buy a RemStar Auto w/C-Flex but w/the addition of the 02 .....

Thanks again. Mine is always plugged in anyway. I noticed when I pressed warmup, it comes on so softly, you hardly hear a thing!

To Bearcat...you were given the wrong manual. Bring it back to your DME and exchange it for the Elite manual.

Have a good night all!

Mary
