Different AHIs

Post by jopo3588 » Thu Aug 12, 2010 6:48 am

I've been using a Respironics M Auto Bipap and have consistently been getting AHIs less tthan 1.0. I am now trying out a Resmed Autobipap V25 with the same settings and getting AHIs of 4.0. What could be causing the difference in values? I like the Resmed unit because it is much quieter, but my AHI comes first! Thanks.

Is the difference in AHIs between machine mostly hypopneas?

Some people believe that ResMed S8 series machines (and the VPAP Auto 25 is related to the S8s) have an algorithm that scores more hypopneas than other brands. So the difference may be in the data but not in the therapy. Remember that all xPAP machines have to "guess" a bit when it comes to hypopneas because they don't have all of the data necessary to score them according to the definition used during sleep studies.

Do you feel worse using the Auto 25?

Hi,

I have the same two machines. I notice a lot more hypos with the Resmed machine. In fact, I think that I hold my breath for a moment when I turn over from side to side, and Resmed scores that as a hypo, but the M-Series did not.
