Hose drying...

The last time I cleaned my hose It was still wet when I went to bed even though I spun it after cleaning it. I ran the air through it for a few minutes before I went to bed but got impatient. It is about time for me to clean my hose again and this was on my mind when I went to bed last night. This morning I woke with an Idea on how to dry the hose and would like to run it by everyone to see what you think before I try it.

My idea it to take a shot gun cleaning rod and use a lint free cloth to run it through the hose to dry it out. The rod will be long enough to reach about half of the hose so all I would half to do is come from both ends to dry it.
So what do you think?

I simply attach mine to the CPAP, and let it blow through the hose for 20 - 30 minutes.

Hardly a new idea. it's been brought up on the forum in past years. And, in my opinion, TOTALLY unnecessary. The idea of humidification is to put moisture in the air you're breathing......why on earth would you feel the need to wash and dry the hose?

Den, whether you wash your hose or not, it is not advisable to let it sit all day with water in it since it becomes a great breeding ground for bacteria, mold, mildew, and other equally unsavory characters.

The residual moisture left in the hose from using humidification can also support unwanted "growths," but at a much lower rate, and is the main reason several here wash their hoses.

Mind you, these "pearls of wisdom" are being brought to you by someone who maybe washes their hose every 2 - 3 months.

I live in an older house and mold is some what of a problem so i prefer to clean my hose every 1 to 2 weeks to be safe and give me peace of mind.
thank you for the links, I never thought of searching to see if this was a new idea or not, I woke up with the idea in my head and thought I would share.

Thank you Amigo, I did run the air through last time but for no more then 10 minutes, I will give it a try for longer next time.

If anyone plays the clarinet, you'll know where this idea comes from.

Take a square of absorbent cloth that will just fit into the hose when bunched up. Pinch it in the middle and tie a length of string that is a bit longer than the hose around the pinched bit of the cloth. Tie a small weight (like a 1/4" nut (hardware, not food) to the other end of the string.

Drop the weight into the just-washed hose, grab it at the far end of the hose, and use the string to pull the cloth through. Hose is dry.

Now you just have to figure out how to dry the cloth.
