System One CFlex vs. CFlex "plus"

Post by ewl » Wed Aug 11, 2010 7:21 am

Hi all,

I just recently "upgraded" my MSeries Pro to the new System One Pro CPAP and am thinking that something is amiss. With my old machine, my breathing is so effortless I sometimes don't even feel like I'm hooked up-- I would have CFlex set to 3 (max) setting. But this new CFlex "plus" is driving me nuts-- at least I *think* that is the issue. (I am definately not sleeping as well and in fact dragged out my MSeries last night and slept so much better.) The issue is I feel like I am fighting the pressure-- when I exhale, I can feel the machine trying to adjust something and it actually feels like it's forcibly pushing air into my lungs in a rhythmic sort of way that is really unsettling (and uncomfortable.) And then when I go to inhale, I have no problem initially, but after about a half a breath it is as if the airflow drops off and is restricted, so it's harder to finish a full breath-- so I feel like it's making me breathe more shallowly. Does any of that make sense? Anyway, I am wondering if it is this new CFlex "plus" that is the issue and if so what I can do about it. (I've tried it now on all three settings and have the same issue at each one.) Looking at the Respironics website, it seems to suggest that the System One is able to operate with CFlex "plus" OR regular CFlex-- does anyone know if this is the case? I have only "CFlex plus" as an option on my system menu, though. Is there a way to change it to regular CFlex?

Many thanks for any advice!

Aha- well I have answered part of my own question. Using the directions here for accessing the clinician menu (thank you!) I was able to switch to regular CFlex. Going to try it out tonight!
