I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea and have fairly good luck with a mouth appliance. Sometimes I have occasional allergies though which will clog a nostril based on the side I am sleeping. That will cause problems some nights. Sometimes it is hard to tell before bed that it will be an "allergy night" or not so it is hard to tell whether I should medicate up.
Do any of you CPAP wearers that have mild allergies find that the constant pressure helps keep your nasal passage clearer compared to if you weren't wearing the mask at all?
Allergies and Mucous - side sleeper
Re: Allergies and Mucous - side sleeper
I have the same type of issue that you do, congestion will clog one side or the other. If I then go to sleep on my left side, my right nostril will open up, and the left one will close. Roll over to the right, and the opposite happens after about a minute (yes, it slides back and forth). This even works with my CPAP, although the clogging now is much less, and doesn't completely close the side that happens to be clogged.salring wrote:I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea and have fairly good luck with a mouth appliance. Also diagnosed w/Moderate OSA and had blocked nasal passages until I started using the sinus rinse. After a couple of weeks of rinsing I found I didn't need to do it as long as I drank plenty of water throughout the day.
Never used to like water OR putting anything up my nose, but I've seen the error of my ways.
All the best & hang in there. It will get better in time.

I have moderate sleep apnea and severe allergies. Since i began on c-pap i have had runny nose, sneezing, and eyes tearing all the time. What i can't understand is when i go to bed at night and put on my c-pap mask, all allergies stop! When i get up the next morning, they begin all over again.

sairing, pre-cpap I had chronic problems with nighttime stuffy nose. Now that I'm on the hose that is completely gone. I might be stuffy during the day, but not at night.
