How can I tell if my mask is having a high leak rate while I sleep?

Check the screen on your machine each morning. Depends upon what kind of machine you have, but some of them will tell you something about the leak rate, probably the 95% leak rate or something.

1. You may hear it.
2. You may feel air blowing in your eyes.
3. All but the cheapest machines will report the leak rate.

Now that you've identified the machine, you probably can get more help. You probably need to say whether it is an S7, S8, or S9 Elite. For the first two, you can get to the efficacy data by pushing and holding for 3 seconds the left and right buttons. Once inside the efficacy data, use the down and up arrows to go through the values for the previous night, which are Pressure, Leak, AHI, AI, and HI.

The daily values are erased when the machine time is noon, so make sure you look at them before Noon by the machine's clock.

If you will just say whether or not it is an S9 Elite, someone will give you the instructions for that machine if you need them.

You can download some manuals from this site.

http://www.apneaboard.com/CPAP%20Adjustment.htm

If that does or doesn't help, come back and we'll try to help you further.

You also didn't say what mask. The (mask) user manuals should have a "Vent Flow Rate" chart showing what is the expected "leak" rate at various pressures. If the reported leak rate from the machine is over that, then that's leaking.

In the ResMed machines, you need to go into the machine settings and select which mask you're using. The machine then calculates the flow rate based on the mask and pressure and hopefully comes out with a Zero leak.
