ACR38 Card reader

Post by thegrons » Thu Aug 05, 2010 4:52 pm

I just got this in the mail to read my ResMed S8 data; but the card reader slot is for a credit card sized data card; did they send me the right one? does anyone know how to insert the data card in to the reader?

Thanks,

John

Here's a link to a search on this site for the "ACR38". I'm sure there are many posts which describe how to make the "guides" that reduce the size of the slot so that the one you have will fit.

Thanks I've been reading all the posts but it seems as though everyone has trouble with these readers and there isn't any answer just a lot of luck. some work, some don't the ones that work they don't know how they just got lucky.

I've installed every driver on both xp and windows 7 and I can't get ResCan 3.7 to read the ACR38U card reader... Does soemone have an older version that might work?

Or if I wake every morning and write down my AHI, AI, and HI will this suffice?

After reading all the ACR posts I don't blame anyone for not wanting to comment...

Try downloading (and installing, of course) the latest drivers for your OS. The MSI versions are the easiest to install.
You can find them here: http://www.acs.com.hk/index.php?pid=drivers&id=ACR38

The ACR38 should not be any more difficult to use than the ResMed reader. The only difference is the case.

There are two downloads the MSI installer and the PC drivers. How or what order do I download them? I know that one of them won't open because it says "missing ...." and the other will.

Is there a procedure to this?

There are three MSI downloads. The first is for the antique Windows 98 and ME. The second is for the 32-bit versions of the more recent editions of Windows. And the third is for the 64-bit versions. You only need to install the one that's intended for your system.

I just downloaded all three of them successfully. You should be good to go.

I still can't figure out how to install the acr win 1120 driver? What file do you click on? The PCI installer seems to work; do I download this and it will pull the drivers from a temporary folder?

When I try to download the PCI installer it says "missing package for installation"

By the way when I plug my card reader into the computer and go to devices; it shows up and says it is functioning and my drivers are the latest yet the software won't recognize the reader?

So what is the exact process to download? Do I download the PCI installer after I download the drivers????

Thanks

It's been a long time since I've done this, but downloading and running the correct MSI Installer file should install the driver for you. The installer download includes the actual driver files. The PC/SC downloads are for techies who want to use Device Manager to control the driver installation.

No soap. I reinstalled the software and the drivers just as you said and when I try to down load it say attach reader or bla bla device. Same error message. however when I go into settings it shows 4 devices of whch the bottom one is not check red but I cannot manuever thru the menu to select. I have tried this on 3 computers XP and Win 7 I even went into the drivers folder in resscan and tried to add the driver files.

My computer recognizes the reader in the devices but the resscan doesnt???????????????????????????????????

Even after downloading the 64bit drivers as instructyed

I haven't used the ResMed smart card reader in a while because I now have a ResLink unit attached to my S8 and it uses a SmartMedia card. With the SmartMedia card, ResScan usually displays the message box with the "The are no devices available for downloading data" message. I click OK and the Download Data window appears, but does not show any data available for downloading. But, after waiting a few minutes, the presence of the card is detected and the window updates. I can then proceed with the download.

ResScan is not the slickest piece of software ever written.

The ResLink modules were designed to provide extra data from S7 and S8 series xPAPs. There are separate models for the S7 and S8. There were very expensive, and were designed to be purchased by labs or doctors offices and lent to patient's to collect extra data for a short time, presumably to solve problems. But they never really caught on. I found one on cpapauction.com at a reasonable price after ResMed discontinued them. I think about 3 forum members have one, but they are not readily available anymore.

Have you read through some of the tips in this thread?

viewtopic/t54332/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=47816

There are apparently different revisions of the ACR38 reader; some are compatible, more recent ones are not.

I don't have any first hand experience with the generic ACR38 reader; that the discussion in that thread scared me off, so I bit the bullet and spent the extra money on the official card reader.
