fighting to stay awake

Post by sleepymama » Thu Aug 05, 2010 7:45 am

i am getting excited (weird i know) to finally see the sleep doctor tomorrow to get my full test results back and to finally get the script for a machine. i'm hoping that's what he's going to do. i went to bed around 11pm last night, fell asleep by 12am and woke up at 9am. i've been up for 45 min. and i'm sitting here wanting to doze off. i know that if i don't keep myself busy i will fall back to sleep on the couch for a couple hrs. i do it most days. my kids always know when i say i'm just going to rest that i'm going to fall asleep. it's common lately and i feel so guilty for it. i long to have more energy to be able to keep up with them and to want to do things around here. i'm on vacation from work and all i've been doing is sleeping the morning away. i wish i went for the sleep study sooner then i did. i kept putting it off until the summer started because i was reluctant to sleep somewhere strange hooked up to all the wires. oh well you live and learn i guess.
well i'm off to make another tea and to continue fighting this sleepiness. have a good thursday everyone!

I find that a little cardio exercise tends to shake off that sleepiness. Get the blood pumping and oxygen flowing...

Oh, sleepymama, I hear you...... I've often said that upon awakening after 8 hrs of sleep, I feel like I just put in a 10 hr day! Of course, now I know why..... many hypopneas an hour and O2 sat well below normal. My body has been fighting a slow suffocation all night....no wonder I awake exhausted! I can't wait to get my machine and begin being oxygenated during the night. I probably won't know what to do with my newfound energy and restfulness.....ok, maybe I will, but I know it is going to be weird after all this time to feel like DOING stuff!!

When this fatigue first hit me like a brick wall... many years ago... I was very athletic. I worked out 3x's a week and power walked 15 miles a week. That brick wall stopped me in my tracks, and I have struggled to just exist day to day from the exhaustion. I want very much to get back to exercising.... I am much older now and past menopause so I doubt I'll ever be the skinny minnie I was back then again....but I will be happy to shed some pounds, get back to walking and working out, and know I am helping my body get healthy again.

You say you waited until summer.... are you a teacher? I ask because I know that is often the refrain of educators who have NO time during the school year.... take care of all those appts during the summer break. I know I did that, too. I taught for 30 years.

Best of luck with your appointment.... keep up posted on your results. Do your homework and stand your ground on what you want for a machine!! You are young and have a bright future ahead of you filled with good sleep, plenty of energy to keep up with your children, and keeping your body oxygenated and healthy!!
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

Hi sleepymama

Having your cup of tea whilst sitting facing a bright light will help your brain realize that your day has started and sleep in not an option.

Told to me by my Sleep Doctor to help me with my sleep hygiene.

cheers
