S9 Climate Line has a hole!

Post by Big Daddy RRT,RPSGT » Thu Jul 29, 2010 5:20 am

Had my heated climate line for a few months or so. After cleaning it, a small rip noted just below the cuff. My climate line was a sample from a Resmed Sale Rep so I can't make a warranty claim. I have a standard tubing which is fine for now, but I need the heated tubing to prevent rainout for the extra humidity during the winter. Other than a new hose, whats the best way to repair a leaky hose?

F4 tape it is heat temperate to 400 deg F.

you can find this in many stores identified as rescue tape or google F4 tape. I have seen this on amazon, after seeeing this issue on another post a few months back I used some of this tape I got from the aviation industry and it works great on the Climateline ans well the slimline hose boots.

I just recieved a new climateline hose from the remanufacture of the line they still have done nothing to reenforce the boots so i placed about a foot of the tape wrapping it evenly to create a reenforcement works great..

People are touting 'Rescue tape' in this forum, but it's ungodly expensive--
Just bop down to Harbor Freight (love that place) and get X-Treme tape.
I bought some just in case I need to make a repair later.
I got vetwrap on the joints now as a preventive measure.

Electrical tape or Gorilla duct tape

My two week old s9 slimLine hose developed a leak next to the cuff. I must have slept on it. I emailed Resmed to complain last week and I have received no reply.

I have nothing nice to say about their hoses nor their customer service.

Here's a previous thread discussing the same problem:

I got my S9 and the assorted hoses at the Mayo Clinic Sleep Store, and they were at great pains to point out that the Slimline and Climateline both suffered from a problem where they developed leaks near the connector if you pulled on the hose while disconnecting it. They said that ResMed is working on a redesign.

I just received a replacement for my slimline hose--it seems to be stiffer than the original--maybe that's the fix--stiffer or thicker, therefore stiffer material. This means my husband will not get his fishing pole back just yet, since the hose minder is more important for a stiff hose.

Does this F4 tape actually bind to the rubber connector as well as the hose ? Perhaps this is best used as a fix in case of failure and not as a precaution ?

Does any 3rd party make a quick-disconnect for mask because I currently must pull at the rubber hose end to remove my Swift FX if I need to get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.

Has the redesign appreciably improved the hose so that the holes at the tubing ends are prevented ?

you can cut the tape off easily if that is what you are askiing, it will effectively secure to the hose and the fitting to prevent leaks as well stiffen the end just enough to mininize the chance of a pinch beak or tear.

Well all I can say is I never pulled on the hose itself. The slimline looked so cheap and flimsy and I was careful with it and it still only lasted two weeks. I'll never buy another one. Resmed will not answer their customer's emails either

Hi Big Daddy,
Im sorry to hear your new hose broke so soon. There is obviously something wrong with the design, I think they must be working on it.

I used the f 4 tape as a precaution on my climateline hose.

I was reading about the hoses prematurely breaking, so I bought some on amazon.com

I got the clear color, and when I took off a piece, boy did it smell! eekorama!

so, I hung a strip about a foot long in my closet for a week and the smell went away..

I put it on both ends of my climate line, and it worked great.. then a few weeks later, I thought I had to return my machine
and tubing! However, I was able to easily cut the f 4 tape off the tubing with cuticle scissors, and there was not hint that any tape
had been on that tubing..

so I would really get that tape for the future and use it on the slim line and the climate line

These are two key specifications important for CPAP tubing !!! My room is 450 degrees and I regularly run 7,500 volts near the bedside.
