Teeth pulled... Quick question

Post by LaurieJ31981 » Tue Jul 27, 2010 5:03 pm

I completely forgot to ask the dentist... So I had 4 teeth pulled today first time ever. Seeing as though you can't suck through a straw, wouldn't pressure from the cpap sorta do something similar? Should I not use it tonight just incase?

Thanks

I don't think that CPAP is like sucking through a straw as the air is being push with positive pressure. with a straw you are using a negitive pressure to draw the liquid into your mouth.

sleep well

I just meant all that forced pressure, would it cause a dry socket? Even when I use my nasal mask and tape my mouth, my mouth still fills up with air. I guess I'm just afraid of screwing it up. But the nasal mask seems better then the ffm. Thanks for the reply

Why did you have the teeth pulled?

Oral surgeons have emergency numbers for after hours. I'd call and ask, just to be sure.

UPDATE~ The Dentist actually called me to check up and see how I was... so I was able to ask him this question. He says that because it is Positive airway pressure, it should be ok... Dry socket is usually self inflicted, or from a bad extraction, but mine were simple he said, so I shouldn't worry... I still will though and I'll probably wake up all night lol

Hi Laurie,

I just wanted to say I hope you feel better, because having four teeth pulled is no picnic.

Let us know how youre doing, and glad that your doctor called you back to let you know it was okay to cpap.

You probably wont get much sleep, but I hope so..

Get well soon!

elena

My daughter is going to have her wisdom teeth out next week, and at the consult the oral surgeon said most of the people he has who experience dry socket are smokers. He did adivse against sucking through a straw, though.

I had one pulled... used the machine the first night. Didn't have trouble with a dry socket, but did have trouble with where the mask straps were on my face, as they seemed to hit exactly over where the tooth was pulled.

Thanks everyone ...

I didn't sleep great, but I have had no pain since the numbness wore off yesterday, so I dunno if this Dentist was just really good at pulling teeth or if I have a high tolerance for pain lol... I kept waking up with a dry mouth, I taped it shut but I knew that my face kept blowing up like a chipmunk which made me nervous... I survived though... Took today off from work so I could just relax... and hopefully start eating some solid foods later in the afternoon...

I recommend you look at this thread, viewtopic/t53983/Discussion-of-Small-Ja ... Apnea.html , and make sure your dentist knows about the connection between tooth extractions and sleep apnea.
